When it's time for your toddler to graduate to a "real" digger, this is the one! Wheels (over the tracks) roll great, very authentic details, our son still can't get enough of this. As some have mentioned, at one point early on I heard a yelp and saw him come running towards me holding his finger. Nothing serious but there is a pinch point on there. I then saw where it likely was, pointed it out and Jr agreed to not put his finger there again. As simple look at the boom and you'll see where to point it out too. Only issue we had is that it did not come with a "teeth scoop". The gravel bucket included actually works better, but some toddlers with attention to detail may wonder how old this digger is that all of his teeth have fallen out already. That's why we brush! A quick and inexpensive order on Bruder's website had a compatible bucket with teeth headed our way and quick snap to change it out.

Bruder makes really good quality, playable scale models. My son loves his excavator, and as a parent of 3 and 2 yr old boys, I am very glad that this toy can withstand their play. We've had this for about 6months and it still looks brand new. All parts work the same as they did as day one and nothing has broken or fallen off. The bucket and arm extends and can be locked back into place when you need to put the toy away, the cab rotates and the support legs can be raised and lowered and the scoop assist thing (looks like a front shovel) can also be raised and lowered. If your kids love construction toys, I cannot recommend Bruder and this Excavator in particular any higher.

Detail and apparent durability unlike any I've seen. It's hardy, it works well, looks AWESOME. Kids love it. Only down fall is the front shovel plate is a little hard to pop up and down and requires parental assistance, otherwise the little handle breaks...

We bought this truck for our grandson's third birthday and it was a HUGE hit! He carried it everywhere with him for several days and even insisted on taking it to bed. Like most young boys he can be pretty rough on his toys and this seems very sturdy for inside or outside play. I was concerned about the pinched fingers that other reviewers mentioned but this has not been a problem. I think three and up is a good guideline because younger toddlers might not have the coordination yet to operate it with the handle.

When I purchased this for Christmas, I dismissed the other review that mentioned pinched fingers, thinking to myself that their child must be too young for the toy, or it was an isolated incident. Well, my 3 yr. old just ran into the den screaming and holding out his pinched finger. It is pinched so badly that the skin is blue and protruding (sticking out) in the pinched position even a few minutes after it happened. He immediately pointed to this toy and is now reluctant to play with it again. Money wasted.

We bought this for my son's 4th birthday in the spring. It held up beautifully through a summer full of sand digging and then an autumn of semi-loose dirt digging when the sand ran out. My guy is hard on toys. Not that he abuses them by throwing or stomping or anything. He just has high expectations and if it's a "digger" well then it better dig.A few times the stabilizers have fallen off, but they easily snap back on. And once or twice the hook assembly for the bucket "broke" but was also snapped back on quickly. I believe that bucket issue was due to trying to dig into hard packed dirt.He loves this toy and plays with it daily. After 7 months it is still his favorite toy and he still spends hours at a time digging and dumping.I would purchase this excavator again in a minute. And am so delighted with the number of hours this toy has put in, if it did break tomorrow I'd happily buy another one.For Christmas we are considering other Bruder trucks.

I purchased this for my 3 year old son who loves all kinds of machines and trucks, especially of the caterpillar brand. It was my fault that I mistakenly thought it had a remote, since that was what I searched for. However i guess i did not read the description well as i searched for christmas gifts in the middle of the night online. Lol. The truck is well made and sturdy, though it's made of hard plastic and not metal. While he likes the toy, he quickly loses interest. I think it may be more of a hit when we can take it into the sandbox in the summer months to do some real digging. The toy is not a bad toy and it's descent quality, but for what I paid for it, I would have wanted a remote or some more features. It's just a basic Excavator. No sounds, no special features. a little overpriced.

My 2.5 year old boy loves this toy and wants to play in the sandbox with it all day if I let him. He can be rough with his toys, but this particular toy seems to be holding up pretty well w/o any damage from my little monster. As one of the reviewers mentioned, it can potentially pinch little fingers. It's because the handle attached to the boom requires some coordination to operate... and most toddlers don't have that coordination. It even took me some practice to maneuver it in order to scoop sand w/ it. So the little boy rather likes to hold the arm of the excavator and scoop sand with the bucket directly w/o using the handle. Doing so, his fingers sometimes get pinched between the hydraulics and arm of the excavator. My boy learned it quickly and he avoids getting his fingers pinched... and it doesn't seem to be a big problem. I guess that's part of learning toddlers get with this toy. Overall, this is a great toy except for the price. But it's made in Germany not in China, so you're buying the Mercedes... 4 stars, not 5, b/c of the price and finger pinching.
