This comes in handy for finding wires in a trailer. Our harness goes into a channel so you lose sight of the wires. Using this device, you can locate the correct wire on the other end of the trailer. So you can find a broken lead and even wires that happened to change color in the hidden area. Without this device I would have relied on the color of the wire not knowing it was spliced in a hidden area and changed color before it exited.I recommend this to help find problematic wiring issues. It greatly speeds up the process.

The Cable Circuit Wire Tracker by Automotive Electrical has proven to be an invaluable tool for diagnosing and locating open circuits and faults in my car's electrical system. With its tone generator and probe, it efficiently identifies wire breaks and circuit issues. The wide voltage range (DC 6-42V) ensures compatibility with various automotive systems. This diagnostic tool has greatly simplified the troubleshooting process, making it an essential component of my car maintenance toolkit.

I've many such devices over the years, and this one has not performed as well as others that cost half the price. What interested me in this was the flexible receiver antenna (for lack of a better word) which allows for getting into some tighter spaces, but it picks up so much interference that at times it's difficult to use. I'll need to add an isolator to this if I decide to continue using it, otherwise I'll just stick with my trusty old device instead.

I'll start with the toner which puts out enough signal to tone out wiring in a car, truck, semi, bus or even a home. The switch is a little flaky but I found it just takes a sensitive touch (detents are very light). Overall the toner works well. Now for the receiver/tracer. I first tested this on the bench without the toner and got a very shrill noise coming from the speaker without even getting the sensitivity 1/16th of the way up, so I took it out to the field (a literal field) and got the same results, I thought maybe a flaky battery so I swapped it out and being lazy about screwing the cover on just for testing I found that if my finger touched the battery or the negative terminal I could turn the sensitivity up higher (about halfway) before the shrill noise overpowered it. This tells me that there is an issue with capacitance somewhere on the board (possibly a cold solder joint or capacitor grounding issue. I am a electronics R&D tech by trade and my inner voice tells me to troubleshoot it and fix it which I just might do to have an extra on hand but for now my review will stand at 3-stars because it's just too iffy and hard to use the way it is. (this one may have just slipped past QC at the factory)If anything changes I will post an update.

I really wanted to like this device but I found the tech dated and difficult to decipher. I have other meters and testers that easily identify break in a line. This device picks up a lot of noise! If I can dial it in better I will come back and update my review.
