The packaging was fine for this part but the pen packaging that it comes in was opened and the part does not look new. Disappointed to have received a used item when buying new

Improved version of what came with my fork. Both are aluminium but this one has a dust seal. Very important as the original did not and was causing lower headset bearing failures due to dirt contamination. This design should help as it keeps out dirt with a lip seal. Still as lightweight as original. You need a special installation tool to install it correctly as it is a press-fit design.

Got to love the Cane Creek crown race. These come with a built in dust skirt which is a nice bonus. Use a proper crown race install tool or you will damage the rubber dust seal.

Works great with my s-3 Cane Creek headset. Easy to installation and good quality.

I'm only giving this 3 stars, because I more or less damaged it during installation, after numerous attempts to get my headset to seat properly. And when I couldn't achieve that, I pulled and pulled and yanked at the top of the headset until the crown race was ruined. It might be one of the better ones available, but I can't confirm that. I had to go finally with a whole new headset from Hope Tech which included everything, even a new crown race. And now, all is fine. So my review probably won't help most potential buyers and I apologize for that, but that was just my own experience.

Worked as it's supposed to, but a little pricey for what it is.

Seems to fit and work perfect with my S-3. Cane Creek might or might not agree, but they're not saying, and the only possible alternative seems to be the 40 series crown race (which is probably the same thing in steel instead of alloy (do not want)). I don't recommend reusing an old S-3 crown race; the rubber seals will be damaged when the crown race is removed. Because the rubber seal has to slide/rub on the side of the outer bearing ring, I recommend greasing it with something like Buzzy's Slick Honey. It's kind of an odd look from the under the headset; the blue seal spreads out so that there's nothing but blue in the gap between the fork and the headset cup. Even if the seal's touching the cup, doesn't really matter. There's a comment to a different review that incorrectly suggests this doesn't work with an S-3; my counter comment suggests the comment is wrong; there's been no response.

30mm interior dimension is for 1 1/8" steerer tube. Using this with an old Cane Creek S3 headset. No supplier lists any crown race available for the S3, but this is the one.Genuine Cane Creek product, shipped immediately.FYI, to mount it, you don't need to pay a shop or buy an expensive Park Tool. Go the hardware store, buy a length (at least 2 feet) of 1 1/4" interior diameter PVC pipe. I bought a 5 foot length for about $3.50. 1 1/4" fits over the 1 1/8" steerer tube and rests on the crown race perfectly. Use a soft mallet and tap it into place. Also, smear a little good grease on the the steerer tube where the race will sit, so you have some chance of getting it back off someday if you need to. If you don't, water will get in there, it'll corrode and that will basically weld the race to the tube, and you'll never get it off without destroying it.
