  • Ultra-long 56mm focal length provides low power views in telescopes with a long focal length, perfect for viewing wide-field deep sky objects or daytime terrestrial vistas
  • 4-element Plössl design provides sharp views to the edge of the 47° apparent field of view
  • Fully multi-coated for best light transmission through the lenses, resulting in brighter images
  • Comfortable eye relief (52mm) and fold-down rubber eyeguard for comfortable viewing with or without eyeglasses
  • Knurled rubber grip ring for non-slip handling during observing sessions

Enjoy the view with Celestron’s Omni 56mm eyepiece – a low power wide-field 2” eyepiece with superior light transmission. This 4-element, fully multi-coated Plössl design offers a 47º apparent field of view—a great combination of low magnification and wide field of view. The Omni 56mm is perfect for viewing deep sky objects, such as star clusters (like the Pleadies), nebulae (like the Lagoon and Orion Nebulae), and galaxies (like the Andromeda Galaxy), in telescopes with a longer focal length, like Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrains and EdgeHDs. Without low power and a wide field, you won’t be able to see some of the most spectacular objects in the night sky entirely in the field of view. This eyepiece is also great for daytime viewing of panoramic vistas through longer focal length telescopes. The large lenses used in the Omni 56mm Plössl make this combination of low magnification and wide field of view possible.

Body

The Omni 56mm eyepiece comes with a black painted internal barrel and baffles to cut down on internal light reflection for a high-contrast viewing experience. Lens edges are also blackened for maximum contrast. Its mounting barrel is threaded to accept 2" filters and is compatible with 2” star diagonals and focusers. The barrel is also notched to prevent the eyepiece from falling out of the focuser if the securing thumbscrews become loose. On the exterior of the eyepiece, you will find an integrated knurled rubber grip ring for non-slip handling during observing sessions.

Viewing through the Omni 2” eyepiece is comfortable for eyeglass wearers and non-eyeglass wearers alike, thanks to the fold-down rubber eyeguard and generous 52mm eye relief.

The Celestron Omni 56mm 2” Eyepiece is a fantastic addition for anyone looking to enhance their deep-sky observing experience. As a long focal length eyepiece, it provides bright, wide-field views, making it especially useful for large nebulae, star clusters, and expansive celestial landscapes.Pros:✅ Exceptional Wide Field of View – The 56mm focal length offers a low-power, high-contrast view, perfect for scanning the night sky and framing large deep-sky objects.✅ Comfortable Eye Relief – With around 21mm of eye relief, this eyepiece is very comfortable to use, even for those who wear glasses.✅ Quality Optics with Multi-Coatings – The fully multi-coated optics help improve light transmission and reduce reflections, resulting in clear, sharp, and bright images.✅ Solid Build Quality – The 2-inch barrel is well-machined and feels sturdy, fitting securely in a 2” focuser or diagonal without issues.✅ Great for SCTs and Refractors – Works particularly well with long focal length telescopes like Schmidt-Cassegrains (SCTs) and some refractors, delivering stunning low-power views.Cons:❌ Not Ideal for Fast Telescopes – In fast focal ratio telescopes (f/5 or below), there can be edge distortion and coma, making stars appear stretched toward the edges.❌ Large & Heavy – As a big 2” eyepiece, it adds some weight to your telescope setup, which may require rebalancing, especially on smaller mounts.Final Verdict:The Celestron Omni 56mm Eyepiece is an excellent choice for anyone looking to maximize their wide-field observing capabilities. It’s best suited for telescopes with longer focal lengths, where it provides breathtaking, immersive views of large deep-sky objects. While it may not perform as well on fast telescopes, for the right setup, it’s a high-quality, affordable eyepiece that delivers great performance.Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

My 8'' SCT shows 36 times with this eyepiece. I could get the whole moon with this eyepiece. And see the craters.

Loved the eyepiece but don't have two inch mounts. If I upgrade to two inch, this will be first purchase.

Changed from a 1000mm 8" newtonian to a ~2000mm 8" SCT. My 40mm eyepieces no longer showed the whole moon or sun. This took care of the problem. Nice large view and clear results.NOTE: for uninitiated, this requires a 2" receiver (diagonal, visual back, etc..)

Had to go to a 2 inch diameter eyepiece to get to the lower powers that are useful for some objects. Eyepiece is good, especially for the money. Downside, large and heavy. Very good eye relief, seems very well made.

This Ocular is very wide and it seems to work fine, but I do not recommend it for a Celestron 8" Edge HD telescope since the secondary mirror ring can be seen in the middle of the eyepice.

On the surface, this is a great 2” low cost eyepiece. The build quality seems good and the optics are clear and bright. Unfortunately, both units I received (original and replacement) had an issue with the retaining ring that holds the glass lenses inside the eyepiece. They simply will not stay in place! Both eyepieces I received arrived with the lenses jiggling around inside. I took the base off to inspect and found that in both cases, the retaining ring had come loose allowing the lenses to move around inside the barrel. In addition the coatings were scratched because the lenses twisted sideways from being loose and rubbed the threading on the barrel. No matter how you try to tighten the retaining ring - one small bump to the barrel and it is loose again. It would appear the tolerance on the threads is not precise enough. I also found dirt and dust inside and on the inner surfaces of the lenses. Additionally, on the replacement I received, the rubber grip ring around the barrel was deformed and not glued on straight. Previous reviews rated this eyepiece as very good. Apparently Celestron is having some quality control issues with this model as of late, so I would avoid this eyepiece at all cost! I do believe the basic design to be very good - unfortunately the current quality control issues make it completely unusable!
