Training a dog to use this scratcher is a lot more difficult then it seems but once they get it, it's great! I ended up tucking my dogs kibble underneath and letting him try to figure it out. My only qualm is that it's a bit splinter-y and I have to monitor heavily to make sure he doesn't drag against it

Our puppy decided it was to chew up as opposed to using for his nails.

Just hide a treat or sack behind the scratching board and your dog will try to carve it out and will file his nails. It’s convenient and fun way to trim the fog nails. It also comes with a second scratch paper to replace. Size is perfect even for big dogs. Definitely worth the w

Trying to find ways to trim a dog's nails, especially when there is stress on your part and the dog's part, is harrowing. This scratch board provides a great way to get those front nails down to the quick ...quickly.You start slow. Put a treat under a cloth on the board and the dog should scratch, Uncover and give the treat.I like how this board slants, as a 40% is perfect. I also like to hold a tiny cup at the top, and as the dog scratches, I lift the cup and the treats fall down. You do need to be careful and wait between sessions as even one time can get the nails way down. I was shocked to be honest. They may not be perfectly even, so you may need to dremmel and even them. That also can be done by teaching your dog to quietly lay in on its side. It took about a month and we slowly feed wet food out of a silicone travel tube while I dremmel to even up the nails. You don't have to do that. This board will get the front nails down quickly and easily.

I tried with three different dogs, different breeds and ages, and I couldn't get them to like it. I thick it's better for dogs that are already good at digging and like to do it everywhere, or for cats.

It is well built and comes with spare sandpaper, etc. That being said, cannot get our dog to use it. It is like she is scared of it. She continues to claw at the carpet. I don’t blame the manufacturer, but I simply don’t think it will work with a lot of pets.

My dog has epilepsy and if he get's stressed out or basically any big emotions, it would trigger a seizure. I tried to use the electric nail grinder or take him to get his nails cut but both would trigger a seizure. I am also not confident in using cutters as his nails are thick, black, and he senses my stress which in turn makes him stress. I really like the idea of this scratch board and thought I would test it out. It's a well built board with adjustable height to cater to you dogs comfort and height. My dog was not intimidated at all when I introduce it to him and was able to successfully train him to scratch the pad. However, I was hoping it would reduce the nail length but it just buff out the sharp edges. If I wanted it to shorten his nails, I would have to press and move his paws to scratch the pad many times over with a considerable amount of pressure before I can see a bit of nail reduction. This manual method is very tiring and time consuming but it works. He is 70lbs with thick, hard nails so it would probably work alot better if you dog's nails are thin.Overall, it worked but I wish it would shorten his nails without my assistance.
