I recently attempted to replace my catalytic converter, however the new one didn't fit correctly, forcing me to reinstall the original converter (for now). Now I was left with the problem of repairing the cut exhaust pipe, so I tried this band clamp.There are no instructions included with the clamp. It seems simple enough, but I did need to search the web for questions I had. Is a sealant needed? - I decided to first apply Permatex Ultra Copper gasket maker to the pipe (not a lot, but enough to cover the pipe surface. How tight should the clamp bolts be torqued (fully compress the clamp joint?)? - I found very little info but decided to use 50ft-lb. I decided to not fully compress the clamp joint as the sealant would effectively increase the diameter of the pipe, and overtightening might damage the clamp.After following the Permatex instructions (24hr cure time), I started the vehicle the following day - No Leaks! (I sprayed with some soapy water to check).If I had it to do again, I really wish I'd have rotated the clamp to place the bolts "up and out of the way" to minimize any chance of an object possibly striking it. Other than that, the clamp has been functioning well for a couple of days. If it fails, I'll be sure to update this review.
