I have two generators, one with an electric start and one with a pull start. The electric start is just so much convenient to use because all I have to do is press the start button. With this kit, I can convert my other generator to electric start. It includes everything you need to convert it over. The quality of the starter and flywheel is almost as good as OEM. The ignition switch box doesn't feel as high quality as the OEM. The paint is not a match to the red that's on the GX390 fan shroud. It's lighter shade of red which almost looks like it's got a shade of pink in there.

I'm getting up there in years, time to add a Electric Starter to Old Reliable. The FDJ Electric Start Kit for the Genuine Honda GX390 arrived without instructions, looking on U-Tube I found a few Videos of the process, that got me started (Pun Intended). I used a Bar Puller to remove the flywheel -> Carefully laying the parts out as they will be reinstalled later. Using a 2-1/2" Hole saw I carefully removed the area for the starter cone, I finished opening up the hole with a 1/2 round metal file. Honestly that was the hardest part of the conversion.The FDJ Electric Start Kit is complete for the most part. The starter Bolts were too long, the screws that hold the Charging Coil are too short while the one that guards the charging wire was too long hitting the Charging Coil. The genuine Honda GX390 requires that threads be cut in all three holes under the Flywheel along with the lower start switch housing using a 6M Bottom Tap.All said I gave the FDJ Electric Start Kit Fit for Honda GX390 a Full Four Stars Across the Board. The Electric Starter works very well, Difficulty Installing is about a Three of Five, The Starter Kit is a Affordable Option, The Set is Very Reliable & Durable, to name a few of them. I would buy this item again if needed.Notes: Most Auto Stores Rent Bar Pullers. Be careful to line the Charging Wire Guard with the Metal Pin, also line up the Plastic Pin on the Pull Starter and Cooling Fan before tightening the Flywheel Nut. I painted the new Cast Iron parts inside and out before assembly to prevent Rust. I used Loctite on all fasteners. All of the bolts I has to replace are grade 5 or 8. Use the supplied metal wire wrapper to keep the wires out of harms way.

I installed the kit myself, there were no instructions for any part of the job. The most important thing I would want is electrical instructions because this kit is supposed to charge your starting battery and it would be nice to set it up to do so.That being said it works excellent and was basically a direct bolt on.

Great complete kit for going to an easier starting engine! The flywheel is a good heavy build with strong magnets in place. It fit perfectly on the 390 and comes with the appropriate stator. The starter works great and seems like a good quality for any small engine. The ignition switch and key work smoothly, there is even a built in circuit breaker which seems like a much better idea than having a fuse blow if something went wrong. This did not come with instructions which I find pretty annoying having several wires but I was able to find out all the information I needed online. I'm pleased this kit had as much as it did to complete the job, all I needed was a battery!

I bought this kit to add electric start to my Honda GX 390 motor. The flywheel with the ring gear that was sent with the kit didn't line up with the original magneto, we had to cut a new keyway to make it work.Added 150 dollars to my costs

A customer brought in a Tiller with a GX390 with a sheared woodruff key! Honda used some oddball woodruff key on this engine. The flywheel was badly damaged from it and this kit is less than the flywheel from honda so I ordered the kit that had a complete (so I thought) kit. It comes with everything you need except a new flywheel key! Because I have no key this kit is useless!
