The directions need to be updated. We had to put it together & take it back apart multiple times because there's no directions to know which way to put the parts facing, for the inside parts to line up accurately for the shelfs to be installed. Only get this if you have a drill or handy man because most holes are not even pre-drilled and you'll be doing a lot of prep & measurements yourself. I do feel another clear shelf cover should be offered for those that wish to protect the wood, but would like to opt out of having a steel cover on a shelf. Mine arrived with minimal damages (some minor damage is naturally expected as these are shipped overseas). Overall, I do like this cage. I think its ideal for raising young rats in until they reach a more appropriate size for other non-wooden cages, without being able to escape through the bars. I would say this could safely hold 6 juvenile rats. Perhaps 2x males in the bottom, and 4x females in the top if raising baby rats separately. I did not use the bottom wire rack to create the litter box of sorts as suggested. I only left the bottom tray, covered it with fabric so it's not chilly, and turned it into another play area, as my rats get litter trained and use a tiny kitten litter box that only uses up a quarter of the space. Overall, I would recommend this cage. But be ready for it to take you 1-2 hours to assemble.

Super awesome and soo huge, there was definitely a lot of thought put in for both pets and humans. Easy to clean while pets get a window to see out of, a nice cooling level and just looks super nice. Assembly was okay, but clearer instructions and stickers would help. Overall, I know my chinchilla is going to love his new cage.
