The size of rod is just not effective for anything other than being a striker for something that is already egregiously flammable. The sparks you can get off this might manage to start a piece of dry moss... If you don't care about your fingers, you have plenty of time, and your moss is very very very very dry.If you want to feel like you have a fire steel, this is a great choice. If you want to actually start a fire, look elsewhere, these are a waste of money.

The strikers are cool, not just look good but work good too. Got 2 of each color and split them with my son, also avid camper and hiker, recommend orange color to spot pieces if they fall on ground.

These are knock offs they are nice the included striker is pretty much junk but that's not much of a problem for me one came with a bunch of weird goop inside of it hence the loss of a start

Love that it came three to an order. Keep one and share the others? Or have many scattered in many key rings or in many vehicles. These work great when starting a fire. Great value.

Great for adding to an emergency kit or camp gear. Or just toss one in the truck or even keep one on your key ring. They work pretty well. I've sparked a fire or two with mine already, so they do work well... I shaved off a lil magnesium dust & put it in the cap with striker, for easy ignition in a hurry.

They are perfect, exactly what i was looking for. They are the same size and weight as my pocket bellows and there is a small amount of room inside the waterproof capsule where i could wrap a very small amount of cotton or charcloth or something around the rod. I bought a titanium flat folding woodstove from vargo and my pocket bellows and this striker fit perfectly alongside the stove with the whole package weighing just under half a pound. All together the woodstove with the bellows and striker are so small and compact i can easily fit it inside a tiny eight inch titanium camping plate.I recently bought a bellows and striker combo but the rod screws into the bellows so they made the bellows much larger to accommodate the rod and then they simply clamped a striker to the outside of the bellows making it larger and bulkier and heavier than this striker with a normal pocket bellows.I recently purchased a zippo mag strike, i was very dissapointed with the bulk and weight, while the rod inside the mag strike is much larger it also weighs 74g compared to this striker at 21g. So the zippo mag strike is heavier than all three of these strikers together and these strikers are still very easy to hold and strike.Id highly recommend these strikers for any fire making kit. They seem very sturdy and its easy to hold and strike. They have a built in waterproof enclosure, and the rod screws in and out so it can be replaced if your able to find another magnesium rod with the same threads on one end. All in all its a wonderful product and the best one ive found yet and im a bit of a pyrophiliac so im always interested in improving my fire kit.The striker is 21g / 0.7ozMy pocket bellows are about a gram lighter making them both weigh less than 1.5oz together and thats all i need to start a fire besides maybe a blade or two. Combine these with a small titanium folding stove for the ultimate lightweight backpackable fire kit.
