This set is machined from a special grade of high strength brass alloy and includes a 1/8-inch solid carbide spiral bit with a 1/4-inch shank. The set comes with complete easy-to-follow instructions, which tell you how to size your template and use the system.

I was trying to use this to make butterfly inlays for wood table tops. I didn’t even get through on inlay before the hit snapped. Brass bushing works ok but I did have to add some extra thickness to my patterns as other people were commenting. I had really hoped the bit would be better. But definitely by extra bits.

The bit sheared off on my second attempt at using it. Fortunately it stuck in the wood.

The threads on template guide were smooth as silk and fit my Dewalt router perfectly. There was no no play at all in the bushing. Thank you for an excellent product. I also received it much sooner than promised. I will buy from you again.

I really liked this kit. Precise and very easy to use. I purchased two of them just in case I have problems with one of its part when using at the workshop.I read some people complaining the bit is fragile. Although neither of the two bits (from the two kits I purchased) broken, yet, I was afraid it could occurs to me at the wrong moment so I discovered an improvement: instead to purchase additional bits to have as spare, I just purchased some sleeves to convert my 1/4-inch router chuck to hold 1/8-inch bits used in CNC machines. I purchased 20 (yes, twenty) 1/8-inch router bits for the price of a single one of those original bits!...and it works!

I purchased this product to do a bow-tie in a live edge table. I used it first on a piece of pine with a template and it worked fine. I moved to a maple live edge table with the same template. The bit snapped part way through the first pass and damaged the template. I contacted Amazon and they directed me to the distributor. They advised me that the bit wasn't warranted and that because of the size of the bit it could have broke on the first try. They did however replace it with a new Freud bit and a return envelope. Their service was great and I am a little disappointed that Freud doesn't warranty this bit. I gave it a 4 because of the vendor and will re-review when I try the new bit again (the live edge is on the back burner for now). I realize that in manufacturing a weak produced can be produced from time to time and I have never had any problems with my many other Freud bits I use.

I am a novice woodworker and I have added inlays to several projects before purchasing the inlay kit. They were never quite as tight fitting as I wanted and so the kit sounded perfect, based on the reviews. However, after buying it I had THE most frustrating day I have had since starting woodworking. The instructions give you a vague idea of how to use it, but they need a little more detail and a couple of pictures to make it more clear. Also, while routing pieces if you twitch or lose contact between the bushing and the template, your workpiece is ruined. Not only that, but I discovered that while routing my inlay, I would make an average of one to two very small mistakes, which, nevertheless destroyed my workpiece. After trying to get a single good piece out for hours and destroying very valuable walnut, I gave up. While my hand carved inlays are never perfect, I have never destroyed multiple workpieces just trying to get a single one to come out right. Also, the act of moving the router around the piece caused the bit to rub on the bushing, nearly carving out one side by the time I gave up.Unless you have the precision of a robot, save yourself a hassle and do it by hand. This product was a huge disappointment.

Even for a first timer, this inlay kit worked flawlessly as advertised. Using just basic router skills, it couldn't be much simpler. Put the bit and the guide bushing in the router, trace the template to cut the receiving hole, add the spacer to trace out the inlay with the same template, cut the inlay piece free from the stock, and place it in the complimenting cutout hole. Some sanding may be required to make everything flush, and a practice run is always a good idea. This is a high quality brass set that worked like a charm for me on my first try.
