My first cordless orbital sander. Great battery life and I like the speed adjustment.

I was originally going to get the Porter equivalent of this tool but in Porters add, but Porter doesn't include the battery or charger, and they don't make it clear which battery and charger goes with this unit even on their website. Porter's orbital sander is about 20 dollars less without the battery and charger which is understandable and I was willing to buy them separately but I don't have the patience to chase down something that ambiguous, so opted for this Greenworks unit which does come complete. Think Porter needs to rethink their add for their sander PORTER-CABLE 20V MAX* Random Orbital Sander, Cordless, 5-Inch, Tool Only (PCCW205B) which is similar to this unit. I have some Porter tools and they are pretty good for my purposes but they are the old ni-cad type batteries. They need to tell you which Lithium battery pack-chargers are compatible with this unit.

Used this to sand my cabinets and didn’t get through everything before the motor burned out and the pad started to rip off. Disappointed.

I agree with other reviewers that it is not as powerful compared to corded models. In addition a 2amp battery is probably not going to last more than 10 min especially for jobs requiring considerable pressure on the machine. BUT this sander is incredibly convenient. I find the handling, weight, noise levels, ease of use and the amount of power is more than adequate for the majority of my DIY projects. I am more than happy with my purchase.

The. first project that I used this sander on was a wooden bench from one of the big box stores. It was quite a few years old and the stained and varnished finish was... well, finished. This sander had no problems grinding of the old finish on flat surfaces and I found that it had enough power to outlast my arms. Paper was easy to change out and the battery time was good.SUMMARY OF MY NOTES=====================- sander is not light but I'm not sure a lighter sander could have torn through the finish I was removing.- paper was very easy to change out- battery life was excellent- I found it particular good to use on this bench. I know some people like to be wired up and not use battery equipment but it would have been torture to do a project like this one and have to maneuver the wire around the legs and arm rests etc. So Battery GOOD.- on the DownSide it was a bit annoying to have to constantly adjust the paper. There's a very useful knob that allows you to shift the paper left/right without having to even turn off the sander.- had troubles only in corners and near the metal supports on the side.Generally happy with this sander.

The only other Greenworks item that I have is one of their robotic vacuum cleaners purchased a couple of years ago...so I'm not "in the Greenworks ecosystem" when it comes to their power tools, such as this belt sander. That made me really appreciate that a charger & 4AH battery were both included, since I don't already have those (their vacuum has it's own docking charging station, and doesn't require an external battery like this tool does, nor does it charge using the same charger that this battery requires). The sander itself is not the finest that I've ever used, but certainly suitable for my occasional need on smaller projects. As a bonus, I don't have to keep borrowing my father-in-law's any longer! It's pretty lightweight, even with the battery on it (although the position of the battery on the rear actually helps it maintain pretty even surface contact, while the lead hand is simply guiding it along the surface). Sandpaper is a breeze to install; just flip up the lever on the side, check the inside of the belt for the arrow direction indicators (ensuring that you're matching it to the arrow direction that is on the tool), center it on the bottom pad with the edge of the sandpaper as close to the edge of the tool as you can, flip the lever back down to "lock" it in place, and done! A 10-15 second process, wonderful!Unlike the one that I'd normally borrow from my father-in-law, this sander is not variable speed. But, the RPM that this tool turns the sanding pad is plenty enough for any job that I'd be using it for.Trigger has a lock-out to keep it going without having to keep the trigger depressed the whole time, which is excellent, and the multi-angle handle is super convenient.I sanded a door that was painted a hideous light yellow color (we thought it'd turn out better than it did...) & repainted it white -- not my top choice, but happy wife / happy life. It was nice to throw the door across a couple of sawhorses and do it out on the driveway without the need for an extension cord and outlet nearby. The bag hardly got any of the dust (a little, but far less than what it should have), but being outdoors and donning a dust mask anyway, not the biggest deal (and not worth hooking a vacuum up to see if that did any better)...a leaf blower took care of clean-up afterwards. I can't fault the dust collection bag too much, as I have yet to find a tool where this actually works even 1/2 way decently. Nothing deducted for this bag simply following what appears to be bag protocol. The battery was still charging on the 3rd bar when I sanded the door -- it wasn't quite done charging all the way, but was somewhere in the final-bar charge cycle, and still shows 2 bars remaining after. I'll bet it's on the high side of the 2 bars remaining, although with only a 3-bar indicator, it's much harder to pin-point remaining capacity in tighter ranges like a 4-bar or 5-bar indicator would offer.Although I don't use a sander every day or even every month (note: they recommend if not being used for prolonged periods, to charge the battery for 2 hours every 2 months...something I checked before putting away so I know how to maintain it; again, since it's not like I have a spare on hand if I ruin this one...), I'm glad to have this cord-free belt sander available for whenever the situation arises!
