Copper Clad Aluminum (CCA) wires do not follow the American Wire Gauge standard (AWG). AWG is developed for electrical resistance classification of Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) wires. High current applications specifying AWG standards assumes the wire is OFC (oxygen free copper). Same conductor area CCA has higher resistance than OFC making AWG classification no longer valid. CCA wires are developed for low current applications (e. g. signal processing). As a rule of thumb, reduce CCA gauge size by 2 to achieve similar electrical resistance as OFC wires. For selection of OFC wires using AWG standards, visit www.amazon.com/GSPOWER

This is perfect for the home garage do it yourselfer. great price and the different colors make it easy to trace wires in a home made harness.
worked great,

Awg 10 is cheap and very useful. I use it doubled (equivalent to awg7) for heavier loads and even tripled (equivalent to awg5) for 100 foot distance. 2500watts over 100 feet @ 5awg works well. Cheaper than buying 5awg wire.

Haven't used it yet but I'm sure that it will provide the quality and ease of use that I need. Seems like a very good product and a really good bargain.

I am satisfied with my purchase of this wire but I am starting from the premise that I required 14 gauge wire or perhaps 12 gauge wire. I have ordered 14 gauge CCA wire and expect it later this week.My concerns of the CCA (copper coated aluminum) is that it is reported to ‘melt’ when soldering, is often misrepresented as a gauge larger in size than what it really is, has a potential for corrosion/oxidation and that it does not carry the same amount of amperage as 100% copper wire.Size: You will see that I compared this 10 gauge GS Power wire (Red) to some 12 AWG stranded house wire (White) that I purchased about 20 years ago from a building supply outlet. As you can see in the picture below, the size of the 10 gauge wire (GS Power) as compared to the 12 AWG wire, is very difficult to tell but it measures with a micrometer as being just slightly larger but not likely in the class of 10 AWG copper wire. 10 Gauge (GS Power): 0.088 inches. 12 AWG (White wire): 0.085 inches.Size conclusion: This did not concern me since I am really comparing to 14 gauge needs and I can easily double this up for the runs that I need a full 12 gauge or 10 gauge needs and still not approach the price of 100% copper.Solder: I was able to solder with what I felt was a successful saturation of the strands with a 260 Watt soldering gun without any melting of the actual strands of the 10 gauge GS Power CCA wire. The insulation of the wire certainly melted near the connection but I would plan to cover it with dual wall heat shrink tubing. The part that concerned me is that I was able to pull the strands apart without a lot of effort (perhaps 20-25 pounds - just guesstimating). The copper wire soldered more easily and even with 50 pounds of force I could not pull it apart.Solder conclusion: I don’t think I would trust a solder joint. If it gets strained and could eventually shake/break loose. I had already planned to use compression fittings and dual wall heat shrink tubing (with the glue in the wall). Not only will the glue help to waterproof the connection (thus limiting oxidation issues); but, it will help to hold the connection together.Bottom line: I can make this wire work. Just make sure that you size wire for larger than your needs and limit oxidation/corrosion potential by keeping as many connections waterproof, as possible.

This is aluminum stranded wire, which is in the description so no shady marketing trying to say its something its not. This wire can't carry the amperage a copper wire could, but it works great if you remember that and use it accordingly. The jacket is appropriately thick, and the wire is very flexible. I'm using it for jumpers on a solar controller, connectors fit well on it and it works great. I wouldnt use it for anything outside its not made for outdoor stuff.

You read all the reviews and they say crappy things because they're use to 600 volt insulation and twisted wire this is straight this is battery cable style wire. this has 80v insulation and is rated indoors onlyI am a master industrial electrician with nearly 40 years under my belt. I purchased this wire for using on a 12-volt solar system and at no time will this system ever exceed 24-volt therefore it will still be able to carry the 25 amps that I'm required to be fused at even though it's only going to be 10 amps. Because I am running a separate run for each panel back to a distribution block to reduce the volume to drop and so I can use this wire which is more efficient than Twisted wire

Really really good price, considering that this is the same quality wire sold by best connections. Not true 10 gauge, closer to 11 maybe? Also, as with all aluminum wires, they are more brittle than copper. So be careful when stripping or making connections or the strands will break.
