I had been fiercely battling a headset issue on my gravel bike, and after stripping one top cap and imploding another plug, bought this to try and "reset" the issue. Works great. The only thing(s) I would recommend is to make sure your top cap screw is greased (or you'll take the plug out every time with it) and watch the gap between the top cap and this plug. Because it sits on the top, even with about 2mm of space above the last spacer, the top cap was pushing up against the bevel on this plug, so you might need another spacer to ensure the top cap is properly pre-loading the headset.

So first off whoever complained about the spring "breaking", it's not really attached permanently, the ends kind of screw into ratch other. If it comes apart it'll go back together easily. It only has to work long enough to install. Here's what I used it for; I bought a new Rock Shox fork for an e-bike I made from an old Trek I had. I used this to mount a permanent headlight under the fork tube instead of where it normally mounts (thanks Rock Shox for not including at least one threaded mount ugh). The only modification I had to do was to take a little material off the sides of the wedges to make it fit just right. A few minutes on a belt sander, a leftover disk brake mounting screw and Bob's your uncle!
