No need to pre drill a hole. Just use the breakthru screw and it drill itself to the frame. Strong and works fine to secure my door while the garage opener is down.

Exactly what I was looking for. I don’t know why no stores carry these, as I feel the safety lock system that all the other ones my local stores carry are annoying.

These little things are wonderful. No problem to install them. I just had to make little labels - one by the garage door opener switch and the other in my car - to remind me to release that closure before I open the garage door. I am happy to have this extra security to prevent opening the garage door from outside.

These are an effective security measure to use on your garage door to keep thieves from opening the door. They were easy to install, after removing a knock-out on each of the side rails. Excellent product and nicely priced.

With a string of break-ins in our neighborhood, including a couple of attempts on our garage, we needed a quick security solution before a trip for peace of mind. These arrived just in time. They were smaller than expected, but surprisingly sturdy and effective. Installation was a breeze, thanks to my kind neighbor who handled it swiftly. I noticed he used longer screws for a proper installation. Overall, a great product for the price.

Exactly as described. Required a bit of work to mount (drill out larger holes on my garage door). Lag screws provided are great quality as is the lock. I had to take a couple of swipes at it before I was satisfied as to the mount (my problem not the lock). The lock works excellent. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed. Well boxed.

I should have bought these years ago. What an excellent way to lock your garage. I mounted them on my door and cut out holes in the track with my plasma cutter. I'm sure you could grind or drill out for a similar effect. I took them apart and added grease as they're a bit loud when actuated, but otherwise these were excellent. Highly recommend.

This is a heavy duty lock. It is a bit noisy to operate, due to the heavy mechanism. But that isn't an issue. Security is more important. I like the red piece that is installed on the part you push or pull to operate it. It is kind to your fingers, plus it is easy to see at a glance that it is either locked or unlocked. It was easy to install. The sliding mechanism fit perfectly through the rectangular slot in the rail for my garage door. I installed it as security until I get my new garage door opener installed. My old one died, so I have to manually open and close the door for now. But...Now I have peace of mind at night, knowing no one can raise my garage door, even after my new opener is installed. I would recommend this lock.

I recently heard about another way burglars break into garages. Yikes. I found a lock already in place that the garage door installer had put in. Only, he did not align the lot with the slot in the door track, rendering it useless. So, I moved it. Then I looked for a lock for the other side of the door. I went through the Amazon choice. There were many, and I focused on this one in particular. It was one of the few that did not require Amazon Prime to get free shipping, even if I was way over the minimum purchase (with other items). That's a crazy policy.I liked this one because it looked sturdy and came with screws. When I received it, I was delighted with the sturdiness of the product. The assembly was sturdier than the one the installer had put in place, especially the extension, which was thicker and wider - making it much stronger. Thus, it was a shock that the screws are so puny. Look at the picture. The middle screw on the right is what the installer used. The left screw in the right batch is what came with the lock from Amazon. Now, compare that to the screw on the far left. That's what the smoke alarm came with (along with the expanding wall hanger). And the smoke alarm is just a few ounces with absolutely nothing pulling on it. Sure, the alarm is not attached to steel, but that difference gives me no confidence about the ability of the puny screws to keep the burglars at bay.I went to the hardware store to get screws comparable to what the installer used, shown on the right of the left picture. Not exactly the same, but close enough. It cost me $13 for 50 screws. (That's almost the price of the lock.) But I know something this beefy is needed. Just look at the holes. You don't have holes that clear #14 screws and use #6 screws and have it work as designed. That's common sense for anyone who has worked around the house. I've done that for decades. So, be confident that the lock is fantastic, but get some real screws from the hardware store, even if it's costly. You will sleep better.
