For normal sized chicken eggs, the product picture has to be turned 180°. The large opening what the egg cups stand on and the small one is where the egg goes in.

These are just like the egg cups used by CP & CN rail in the 1960s. They can be used either way up. Put the egg in the small cup to eat it out of the shell. Or, spoon it into the big cup to add butter & mix it up. Yummy! Also, The egg can be put under the cup to keep warm or to keep from toppling off the plate on the way to the table. Some things can not be improved upon & this is one of them.

First of all, these things are huge. An egg disappears inside them so there's no way they can be used as an egg cup. If you turn them over to use the small end, the edge of the rim is rough and unfinished, so clearly not expected to be used. Secondly, this is not fine porcelain. These things are thick-walled, heavy, and chunky. There's nothing "fine" about them. I do not believe their photo is of the same thing because in the photo they do look like thin-walled porcelain, not the heavy, chunky, huge things these are.

Very happy with these. My 10 yr old son likes soft boiled eggs (I've trained him to like them because they're easy). I like the large side since I remove the shell for him. Here's my process- I use the small side to hold the egg once I remove it from the pan, while I take each egg and run under cold water. Then, I crack the top of the egg, chip off some shell, flip the egg cup to the large side and scoop the egg out of the shell and into the cup for him. The small side is a little shallow if you plan to use that side to eat it out of the shell.

I ordered the double egg cups thinking that the larger part would hold a 2nd egg and keep it warm while the first egg placed in the smaller end was being eaten, but the large end isn't large enough to fit over a large egg. Perhaps it would fit over a small egg.The cups are thick and substantial and work well otherwise.

The large size cup part is too big for any of my eggs; but the small size cup part fits all my eggs. I use these daily.

Great quality egg cups. The small side fits the average boiled egg perfectly and is very sturdy for cutting and dipping toast with its larger base. I find the base really useful for holding freshly prepared spices and chopped herbs instead of using a bowl. Nice and heavy, dishwasher safe.
