Product Description

Thraed Tap

Straight flute design, used for through-hole and shallow blind hole tapping.

Brand Aceteel
Model Straight Flute
Cutting Direction Right Hand
Material High-Speed Steel 6542

Tips:

  1. Before tapping confirm whether the diameter of the round hole is appropriate, and take protective measures when working.
  2. When tapping, it is necessary to add water or coolant to cool down to prevent excessive temperature and reduce tap loss. If it encounters difficulty in rotation, the tapping should be suspended.
  3. Be sure to select the appropriate cutting oil for the complex tapping process and apply anti-rust oil for maintenance after use.

As someone who works in audio/video, I make a lot of mounts that screw onto a 5/8 - 27 threaded end on microphone stands with my 3D printer. I was dissatisfied with printing such a fine thread, so this was my solution. This cuts into both PLA and PETG easily and leaves me with a reliable threaded hole that is secure on the stands. I've threaded microphone holders, small tables, small light mounts, and other stuff. I've had success with all of them using this tap.

I'm using this item (along with many other pieces ... also ordered from Amazon) for a project prototype! This prototype will take me many months to complete.

I like the quality. Tested it and the accuracy was spot on. It has good appearance and well packed.

After manually having threaded one hole, my verdict is that the tap performed with the same excellence one would expect from a high quality tool. No signs of wear. Ideal result.
