It did not work i drilled a hole in my flute. Pipe and installed it, but the temperature gauge would never move. I sat it on top of the wood burner, and it went up to a 100° once and other than that, it just did not work. whatsoever. I returned it

Simply put this does not work. The needle does not read an accurate temperature. Inconsistent, the needle just randomly displays a reading between below scale and 600 degrees. Almost seemed like it was mechanically binding, but that was not the case. And even if this did read correctly the magnetic mount did not sit securely to the pipe. Save your self the frustration and go with a different brand, I liked the Condar.

This does not work by probe. It is just a glorified surface temp gauge. Wish I would have checked closer. Junk.

I got this thermometer as a backup for when we have power outages and our digital thermometer is not on. There are two serious issues with it. It is missing parts and it is very inaccurate. I was a bit concerned when out of the package the thermometer was not even registering room temp. I installed it, 4" from the digital probe. My concerns were correct. The Imperial thermometer is not even close to correct. At 600ºF actual flue gas temp, the Imperial reads 380º. This is useless. It will be returned. The parts issue is that it is being shipped without the ferrule and magnet that are listed in the installation steps. This is a worthless item. Don't buy it. Get a Condar instead.

The photo is the side view of the Thermometer. The BI-metal spring is OUTSIDE the pipe by a large distance, about 1/2". Even though the probe extends into the pipe it is just a piece of steel. The bi-metal spring is only reacting to the radiant temperature of the pipe surface. The second issue of this design is the spring will sometimes get attracted to the magnet. when this happens it does not move no mater how hot it gets.I can affect the reading of this thermometer simply by blowing across it. Any air movement around the room is going to change the temperature reading. I have found mine to be about 200 degree low.Nice elegant look to the dial, very attractive. however it is a bad design. The temperature sensing device, either a Bi-metal spring or a thermal fluid, should be INSIDE the flue to get an accurate reading.

The magnet was installed backwards and prevented the dial from moving. Flipped it over, is very accurate.
