After seeing a video of someone using a yarn winder online, I was intrigued. I purchased this item to tidy up my yarn stash, and I am so glad I did!This yarn winder is easy to use and makes neat balls of yarn that are easy to stack or organize. I have used it several times for various types of yarn (chenille, blanket, and worsted weight acrylic) with no issues. I wish the arm of the winder was a bit longer, as winding super bulky blanket yarn requires a bit more space for yarn cakes than worsted or light weight yarn. I don't mind separating my yarn into multiple yarn cakes as it doesn't particularly matter for small projects, but this would likely be annoying for projects where one continuous string of yarn is key (such as a blanket or sweater).Keeping this in mind, this is still an excellent addition to any crocheter or knitter's stash! It is so useful and honestly soothing to tidy up all of my random skeins of yarn. I would absolutely purchase this again to gift to other crafters!

Not real sturdy . Doesn’t grip to table like it should. When winding the yarn , it continually moves. It doesn’t hold a whole skein of yarn.

I tried clockwise, counterclockwise. It only winds in One Direction and does not make the even out cake shape. Will be returning it.

This ball winder was easy to assemble and set up. It clamped to a ½” inch thick lapdesk top (I’m a floor person) and was stable. I wound a 425yd skein of fingering yarn. It required two cakes and I had no problems. It was much easier than making a ball and the tension is better and more even. For someone like me who only needs a ball winder occasionally this is a good value.

The crank action is very smooth, this is easy to set up, and it works very well up through super-bulky yarns. It does exactly what I need it to.

The only fault I can find with this product is that you can't wind up big balls of yarm. My daughter still uses it, but we did have to purchase a larger winder for her needs.We use this one when my younger nieces are over and want to help wind yarn and learn to crochet with her.The device is easy to use, but I took off stars because it doesn't wind larger balls, but that's the only fault I can find.
