This is all you need to find studs. It works 100% of the time. I use it several times per week and rarely get my electronic stud finder out.

Broke my first one I've had for years, couldn't believe I would find another. Wow, price was a bit more than my other. Things is I liked my old on, I paid up. Nothing fancy, no batteries, works well for me.

For the money, this thing works pretty good. I did find that you need to go up and down the wall to find where the studs are, because the contractors could have put dry wall screws in all over and not in straight line, but I have been able to find studs and get stuff hug up easily. I could not find one at any of the hardware stores in town for this price. Better than my electric one.

If you ever need to find a stud for example to put up a shelf, this is the stud finder. It does not quibble. It announces, here it is! Here's the stud! I had to put up 30 shelves and I was putting breakable things on them. I had boards, brackets, little screws and bigger screws, and this. It was with no small but of trepidation that I began to search with it. I've had at least a half dozen stud finders and I have flung them all in frustration against some good hard surface. This one survived all 30 shelves, because when it found a stud, it sang out proudly. I'm almost reluctant to say this, but I'm going to anyway. If you're a woman and you're undertaking a job like this, buy this one. It's very user friendly.

What a cheap, engineered to fail piece of Chinese crap. As bad as I hate to say it but it's the second one of these I've owned. My other one lasted a few years and some abuse but this "new" one I just bought takes the cake. Since these are a bit cumbersome and have no place to grab firmly it slipped out of my hand and hit the floor from about 2' up. Instantly the pendulum holding the magnet fell out. Upon further inspection I discovered the pins that it pivots on are too small to support the weight of the magnet and the plastic seems to be of the hard and brittle type (I'm not a chemist) so failure from impact is almost certain. I'm going to try the Stanley one, hopefully it's better as I use this tool quite frequently.

It got me through my project that I was working on, but it was actually kind of a pain to try and find nails in my wall. For the dirt cheap price, it was fine, but I would probably pony up a few more bucks and get a little better one. I would still recommend it if you just need to get by one a simple job or two over the next while. It is still a decent product. Don't let an average score scare you away. It isn't cheap in the sense that it will fall apart on you, it's just a little work to use it is all. It actually is a decent quality.

Not sure what else to say than inexpensive and effective. I've ALWAYS used electronic stud finders and they work pretty good if the batteries are strong and the unit is not too beat up. Then again, if you're pretty sure the drywall you're going into was put up right, with drywall screws going up and down the stud, well... this is great! You have to interpolate the stud position from finding these screws and hoping that the original drywall hanger wasn't a madman and poor shot, but generally you'll get the stud if the drywall is attached to it.If you can get this with free-shipping doing the "add-on" deal, I'd pick one up if you ever need a reliable stud finder for finding studs behind your drywall. That's really the ONLY thing this does, but it does so on par with electronic versions on that task (again assuming the original drywall hanger properly screwed into that stud and wasn't all over the place, but mark a few and draw a line and that's likely your stud position).

There are other magnetic stud detectors with better magnets. This one does not work even when trying out on exposed metal

Works well enough. Need to go slow and pay attention to the tiny magnet, which could be stronger but gets the job done. This unit is better than most of the same tech on the market and at such a low price, why not.

While visiting my grown child and helping her and her husband get settled into their new house, I asked my son-in-law for his stud finder so I could install a TV bracket. He produced an electronic version, which proved to be totally useless (apparently because the studs for the installation backed up to wire mesh that held the ceramic tile on the wall). As a result, the electronic stud finder showed that the entire wall was a stud ( which, of course, proved to be a false reading). So, I ordered this tride-and-true, simple (and cheap) version that I had used countless times in the past. And, once agin, it didn't fail me!Sometimes low tech simplicity is best, a message that has been missed by Home Depot, which no longer stocks this item.
