This stud finder excels in its core functions: wood, AC wire, and metal detection are accurate and reliable. It pinpointed known wires and studs in a plaster wall and precisely measured the distance to metal. However, the screen orientation is frustratingly inconsistent. While the upside-down display makes sense for sensor positioning during detection, it clashes with the button layout and the "Settings" screen. This design flaw, though easily fixable, detracts from an otherwise excellent tool. If it weren't for the screen this would have received 5 stars across the board.Easy to charge using USB-CThe size is good, I can easily hold it in one hand while using it.

Its upgraded smart sensor and HD LCD display make it incredibly accurate and easy to use, saving me a ton of time during projects.Pros:Multiple Detection Modes: Easily switches between modes to detect wood, metal, and live AC wires with precision.HD LCD Display: The clear and bright screen provides real-time feedback, including detection depth and mode.Lithium Battery Powered: The rechargeable battery is a convenient feature, eliminating the need for disposable batteries.Audio Alarm: The built-in audio alert ensures you know exactly when and where a stud or wire is located.Compact and Lightweight: Its ergonomic design fits comfortably in the hand and is easy to carry around.Cons:Learning Curve: Beginners might need a few tries to understand the sensitivity settings for different materials. No Case Included: A carrying case would have been a nice addition for storage and protection. This stud finder is a game-changer for both professionals and DIYers, offering accurate detection and smart features at a great price. Highly recommend!

I'm pretty disappointed in this unit. In every photo they have, they show the unit being held a certain way - so that the buttons are right side up and the screen is upside down. In the instructions, the specifically show you how to hold it, which is the opposite way that is shown in all their photos. The sensor part of the unit is where the big marking hole is. Your body is a conductor, so it can interfere with the sensor. So you're supposed to hold it screen side up. Ok, fine, but then why are the buttons upside down? And why are the prominent "grips" on the side of the unit to hold right where the sensor is and where you shouldn't be holding it? When I saw the pictures before I ordered it, I assumed it was that way because I could rotate the screen orientation, but nope. So that's annoying. It's LOUD, saying things like "metal detected" and you can turn it off, but you can't turn it down. Also annoying.Despite changing the sensitivity setting, I do not seem to be getting very accurate readings. It detects wood fairly well, but is not giving me accuracy on exactly where the stud is. It is showing studs nearly 4-6 inches across, and in areas of my home where I shouldn't have any double studs like a king and jack together. For this portion, I do admit it might be user error. I am unclear about the instructions because it says to that when the wood calibration detection mode is on, you should press the wood button and then "quickly leave the sensing area of the instrument to avoid misjudgement." I'm not sure if they mean remove my body altogether, in which case it seems I need to find wood, place it on the wood, press the button and run? Or can I still be holding it on the wall and then just step my body further away, but then my hand is still near the sensor? The instructions can definitely stand to be a bit more clear. This part I will need to play around with a whole lot more to ascertain what's happening. If it turns out to be user error, I will update the review. The AC detection does not always accurately show live wiring. I have hovered it around my outlets and switches, slowly, and sometimes it shows that they're there and other times, nothing. The screen looks like it is scanning, but it never stops doing that and doesn't show you on the screen where the metal or wiring is, it just says it has detected it. So I have no idea what that's about. Seems like they have created a fake "scanner" for it to look cool. Metal detection seems ok, it is always accurate about my corner bead and exposed pipe. Unfortunately for my learning curve, even my garage is finished, so I don't have straight drywall where I can clearly tell where the studs and electrical are exactly. I plan on taking this to a construction site where I can experiment with it and see what's behind the drywall at the same time.Overall, I'm not really sure I can trust it just yet, but I will continue to mess with it and see if others can maybe understand the instructions more than I can. So far, I'm not very happy.

This review is for Stud Finder Wall Scanner with Modes for Metal, Wood and AC Wire, from Rocky Mars Store, $50 on amazon. This scanner has a Lithium-Ion 390mAh battery which is charged using the provided USB-C to USB-A cable with the USB-A plugged into a suitable 5 VDC power source.I currently own another Stud Finder (does not feature AC or metal detection) that takes a 9 volt alkaline battery. I do not store the battery in the unit to avoid long term corrosion of the battery contacts. So this rechargeable unit is nice; it is available for use immediately without having to install a battery. The three functions: wood stud finder, AC wire detection, and metal detection work very well. Probing a plastered wall where I know the location of AC wires and studs it did well locating and centering. In metal mode it was able to detect a piece of steel which I held in front of its sensing zone and it was very accurate displaying how far away that piece of steel was (expressed in centimeters). So all-in-all this is a nice unit. My only complaint is that the orientation of the screen is not consistent. For the three detection modes the screen is upside-down relative to the keyboard so you have to flip the unit to observe the display correctly (the photo on the amazon site clearly shows this). But in ‘settings’ mode it is in the same alignment with the keyboard. The way the screen is oriented in the wood, metal or AC modes makes sense as the sensor (and pencil access hole) would be vertically up and you would hold the unit around the display (so you fingers would not interfere with the sensor). In that case the manufacture should turn the six buttons 180 degrees. But if the buttons are turned then the display screen needs to be reoriented 180 degrees in the ‘Settings’ mode. Regardless of how the manufacturer makes changes they should address this easy-to-correct issue.
