Expensive. Turns out I only needed the washer at the base.

For those of us who have the Kohler dual flush toilets with the 2 buttons on the top of the tank lid, you know that over the years the shafts in the flush mechanisms break which cause the 2 flush buttons on the top of the lid to feel sluggish. Then you have to start holding the button down longer, and eventually the buttons stop actuating the flush mechanism. For years, I replaced the flush valve with one of the following Kohler parts:1072320-CP (the original replacement - used to be teal green / white in color)https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L5GZ8A01097231 (the next iteration of the part from Kohler)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009KX5ENQ/What was frustrating to me is that the design hadn't changed. The same shafts referenced above would always break over time. BUT, when I bought the part, I could twist the top portion of the old part out of the tank and pop the new one in and be done in 60 seconds. I.e. you didn't have to drain the tank, remove it, flip it over, and unscrew the flush assembly in order to install the new part (unless of course the bottom portion of the flush assembly developed a problem like a water leak). This is where I get to my point. The new part (1269696) is not a direct replacement in that you CANNOT pop the top portion of the old part out and replace it with the new part. You have to remove the tank and do the whole job. No big deal for those know the job well, but a bigger deal for someone wiht less plumbing experience. The reason why I choose to get the new Kohler part is because it costs $20. The old one is now $80 to $100. Usually when the price increases like this, it means the part is likely being phased out of production.Dual flushing people, we're eventually going to have to migrate to the new part. Either do it now, or do it later. The new part works great. No problems. It looks like they redesigned the mechanism too, so perhaps its durability will be better. The top part also pops right out of the lower part like the old one. So, if it fails in a few years, then I'll be ready for the 60 second fix at a much lower price. One problem - the little plastic tubes under the tank lid that connect the buttons to the flush assembly...my existing ones ended up being too short. Kohler sells them separately:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007AVS1WQ/BUT, here's a pro-tip...just screw a stainless steel screw into the end based on how much distance you need. You can always re-cut the tubes to accommodate the screw. Pick a thin screw. You don't want to split the tube by installing a screw that is too thick.

Old valve had trouble sealing, decided to get a whole new unit instead of trying to fix the rubber seal.Just replaced the top flush piece and everything was fixed, no more leaking.

My model was listed as compatible but it was too short and very hard to tighten so that water would leak into bowl. I had to glue some empty ink pen tubes to so that flush button touches the mechanism to flush. Thinking of trying to fix the leaky old one and put it back but it wasnot easy to remove.

I think that I could have replaced small parts of this device instead of the whole thing. This is a newer design that is very well made but gaskets still wear out with chlorinated water.
