Love this snare. I put on die cast rims for an extra punch and it’s fantastic. Punchy and crisp. Worth every cent!

This is the first brass snare I’ve ever tried. It’s really loud! I have a pearl sensitone steel and a Yamaha birch, both 14 x 5.5, and a pork pie maple 13 x 5. I would say my playing style has been mostly jazz/rock, fairly light, with less of an emphasis on the backbeat. I use maple sticks. The kit I use mostly is a stage custom with fusion sizes going to 16”. But in recent years I’ve noticed that some songs and styles just really need a strong snare and kick. Until I tried this drum I thought I knew what that was. The sheer volume of this drum is astounding. What is interesting though is that there is a warmth in the low midrange which is deeply satisfying. With my other snares, I found it difficult to dial in a nice warm snare sound. When I played Bonham style grooves, or straight rock, there was always something missing. I tried various micing and mixing techniques, and was able to get close with a big fat snare drum insert, but I can already tell this drum will have no problem delivering the sound I need without that. It’s a testimony to the big fat snare drum insert that got even close honestly. So far I’m loving the response of this drum. I have it tuned around medium, but I think it will still have considerable low end tone even at higher tunings. One thing I’m still sorting out is the snares - I’ve heard that some people really don’t like the strainer they put on this snare. So far I would agree. The throw off doesn’t happen immediately, it’s kind of clunky and stiff. I’m still trying to figure out how to lessen the amount of snare vibration. Some of that could be the sustain which I’m maybe not accustomed to. But I’d like to get that dialed in and more crisp and responsive. So, there’s more work to do here, but I’m in the ballpark, which is saying a lot. One thing I didn’t think about though is that with a snare this loud and rich, it makes you think about the sizes of your drums and their tone too. I may make a more paired down kit and feature this snare with just the larger toms. With the snare disengaged, this thing is just massive, it kind of dwarfs the SC toms. So I removed some of the moon gels and it’s sounding more”together” but I don’t think I can just swap this drum in to the kit without retuning the toms a bit.

SOUNDS GOOD. NOT A SUPRAPHONIC. NOT BLACK BEUATY. NOT SUPRALIGHT.BUT SOUNDS GOODCOMES OUT OF BOX UNTUNED. (SUPER LOW CLASS ON A DRUM THATS OVER $300) . HEADS THAT COME ON IT LEAVE A LOT TO BE DESIRED. LOOKS SHARP.GOOD DRUM, BUT THE "VALUE" JUST ISNT THERE. NEEDS TO BE CHEAPER, OR NEEDS A BIT MORE ATTENTION TO DETAIL.EVANS HD Dry coated head with 3mil single ply on bottom sounds perfect for me. try it.get it on sale/buy new heads/don't expect a Black Beauty, that's like paying to see John Bonham, but Lars Ulrich shows up instead.

For all intents and purposes, this is a Black Beauty. Most people can't tell the difference when they see this drum on my kit. It sounds amazing. It has an incredible warmth to the tone. The overtones are pleasant rather than harsh, and it's a surprisingly dry drum for a metal shell. I mean that in a good way, as in it has a nice, controlled sustain. Good low end punch. It really shines in the medium tuning range.

This drum has a large range in which to tune and the sound is amazing. It tunes quickly and easily, overtones are not bad either and the drum records very nicely. Affordable price for a high quality instrument. I love this drum. I put this up there with my DW collectors cherry wood drum.

Great sounding snare! Using Evans dry batter and pearl die cast hoops. Played last couple of shows and it really projects. Usually use a snare weight on my snares. Did not need it on this snare. Beautiful resonant ring! Absolutely love this snare!
