I remember my first cup. The full-bodied taste that lingered long after that first warm sip. Earthy. Wholesome. Smooth, with subtle hints of sweet— I was instantly hooked. It wasn’t long after that I purchased my first matcha powder, and began to experiment trying to recreate that delicious electric green cup I so much enjoyed.
It was then I realized just how much the flavor spectrum can vary from one grade of matcha to the next. But it’s not just the grade of matcha that matters— It’s how you prepare it. The full-bodied green taste of matcha is caused by what are called “polyphenols” in the tea leaf. If you add too much matcha powder these polyphenols are overpowering, and you create a bitter tea. If you add too little matcha powder, your cup may taste empty, and each sip will leave you yearning for more flavor.
Creating the perfect cup
Creating the perfect cup starts with creating the perfect tools. The traditional bamboo tea whisk (chasen) and chashaku have been the tool of choice for creating the perfect frothy matcha for over 1000 years —and I have found this truly is the best way to prepare a cup.
Our process is simple, to create the perfect whisk, you need to start with the best material. Our team hand inspects each bamboo rod for blemishes and integrity. Any piece of bamboo that doesn’t meet our standards is rejected. Only after selecting the best bamboo material does our team begin the production process by hollowing out the bamboo rods, and cutting them down to the perfect length for the tea whisks.
The next step is the most important part in the process. Our specialists hand curl each tine to create the perfect matcha brush. The soft brushing motion of the tines is what gives matcha the perfect consistency, and without this integral step in our process, the tea will not come out the same.

Both the whisk and holder feel like they were made of good quality materials. Holder is very easy to clean. It looks good being out on the coffee station in the kitchen. We have had the holder 2 years as of this review. The whisk has been replaced twice but it was used multiple times a day for a year.

I bought this to start my matcha usage, there are so many but I loved that this wasn’t too expensive and had a resting place to store it as well. It’s good quality and works exactly as it should.

Schöne Kombination, der Halter hat eine tolle Farbe und wirkt sehr wertig. Wie lange sich der Chasen hält wird man sehen, normalerweise wird er nach ca. zehnmaliger Verwendung weggeworfen. Bei den ersten Zubereitungen hat er sehr gut funktioniert.

It’s a lovely looking set, but the whisk is not holding up very well. I have only used it about 6 times and one of the little whisk arms broke off already. I am blending raw ground cacao and matcha with my whisk, which my old whisk handled much better than this one. I think because it is so flared, it’s not as strong as my old one, which was much more narrow. For just matcha, it’s lovely, but when I start using anything coarser than a fine power, it’s difficult to clean. The center hangs on to stuff and because the ends of the whisk completely curl under, it’s not ideal for my use. Again, I think if you use it only for matcha, it’s great. It’s much bigger than I expected, on the stand, but it looks nice. You have to be careful putting it on the stand of whisk pieces from the center get caught outside of the hole and could also break the delicate arms. I don’t think I will use that special stand after this whisk. It is unnecessary for me.

The stand is nice and looks great on my countertop, but the chasen is the part I really love. The tines on chasens I’ve purchased in the past have straightened out within one or two uses and didn’t do a great job of whisking; I’ve been using this every day, often twice a day, for a month or two and they’re still curled and in like-new condition. The overall build quality of this set is very nice, and whenever I replace the chasen I will be looking to see if I can buy a replacement from the same manufacturer/brand.

This is my first bamboo whisk for matcha, so I don't have much of a frame of reference. I try to clean it very gently, as I almost unwound the center twist part when cleaning too roughly. I bought this specifically because it came with the chasen/stand; the whisk can mold if it does not dry properly, so I am glad to have a stand that allows it to dry and maintain its shape. The whisk feels delicate but it does the job; for the price, I am very satisfied.

I’m thankful I bought this brand of matcha whisk over others! The last matcha whisk I purchased from other brand broke down and became frayed very quickly, which made whisking more challenging. This brand has held up great since I purchased it and blends my matcha drinks extremely well!

Made my first matcha with the bamboo whisk this morn.. it worked beautifully! I only did a light whisk movement and all the matcha balls broke up nicely, created a smooth tea! :) Happy :) The little base is stylie too! Let's see how the bristles hang in there over time.. Atma
