These nut files are a fantastic tool for luthiers, guitar techs, and hobbyists alike. They’re easy enough for the enthusiast to use and nice enough for the professional. I had no problem cutting the slots in a new nut for my strat. The diamond coating promises years of use before they wear out and the ergonomic design is easy to hold. I especially like that the file is encased in the handle so you can’t accidentally jab the end into the headstock the way you can with the Stew Mac files. The fines are clearly marked with its size and include stickers to mark them for quick reference as well. Finally, they come in a well made metal storage case, which is a nice touch. They may seem pricy at first but they’re quite a bit cheaper than the Stew Mac files and they’re easier to use and afford more control. Add in the storage case and how much better they work at actually cutting the slots than other cheaper options available and the price suddenly seems very reasonable. These save a lot of time and frustration with inferior nut files, especially those butane lighter cleaners that are marketed as nut files. Those are useless. I had these on my list for quite a while before I finally pulled the trigger but I’m glad I did. They’re worth every penny.I would recommend going slowly and doing fewer strokes at a time so you don’t cut down too far too fast. A little goes a long way. This is unfortunately what happened to me and I ended up filing down a slot a smidge too far. You can always go further down if you’re too high but once you go too far down, there’s no going back unless you feel like getting out the super glue and who wants to bother with that mess? Just go slowly. No one ever won a trophy for filing a nut the fastest. Luckily the pack of bone nuts I bought came with two so I had a second chance. I took more time with the second one and it worked out great. I highly recommend these over any other file on the market.

I’ve been considering purchasing a set of nut files for sometime. Decided to go with these and see how they were. Use them on two different guitars. They’re really nice. I’m sure there may be some better out there? But with my experience and setting up guitars for 20 years? These were great.

Excellent set of diamond coated files. Good performance, but length could be a little longer.

There are lots of files to choose from, I went with MusicNomad files because I bought their guitar setup kit and found it incredibly well laid out and easy to follow along. I know my way around a guitar but solely using their guide I got a fantastic result. So lets try the nut files.I'm glad I did, just as good. They could be longer but they work super well. I 3D printed a jig with grooves for string lots to nail the string spacing that I wanted (multi-scale design) and it came out awesome.Side Note: this is a set of 6 files. I bought a stand alone for the 7th string and the extra file still fits in the included case. It "might" also fit an 8th, not sure. But that was really nice to see. Great job guys at MusicNomad!

I've only used these twice since I got them. Accurate nut slot width and a perfect rounded bottom groove in the slots. Easy to use. Little pricey but weighed these out against the Stew Mac set but the equivalent priced SM are not diamond coated. Plus shipping. SM does have a diamond cut set for over 3 times the cost of these! I went with the Music nomad. Happy I did.

I waited awhile to write a review on these, so that I could test them out and evaluate them. I am now convinced that these are great quality nut files. I bought the super light set for my main guitars, and have since purchased another 5 files my other electrics, acoustics, and basses. They have all worked out great and are nice and smooth to use. A couple of things to note on them, a couple came with the file edge slightly tweaked, and not true. However, I just lightly applied pressure and straightened them out, they work great as well. Are they expensive? I guess that depends on how you look at it. Yes they are a little pricey for some plastic and small file. All nut files are expensive, at least the good ones are anyways. They do an amazing job on all guitars, and priced less expensive than most of the others. I can tell that these are going to last a long time as well.

I like the size of these files and the way they fit in my hand when shaping and slotting. Longer files tend to take off too much if you use longer strokes. These are very easy to control. So far they have stayed sharp although I usually only make graphite or Tusq nuts. I'm sure they'll work great with bone & other natural material.

There is no substitute for real guitar nut files. These cost quite a bit less than the Stew Mac offering and work just as well. Unless you are a guitar shop tech, or a really seriously busy luthier you probably won't use these very often. So the cost per use case is mighty high. But having them on hand allows you to dial in the action the way you want it. Effortless F chords at the first fret. Best advice is to be super cautious and only file a little at a time. Go fast or sloppy and you'll ruin a nut faster than lightning.

As others have said these do exactly what they are supposed to do. They are pricey but you can get a nut slot set to the correct height in a few minutes. If you have more than a couple of guitars it is worth the price. I have been playing guitar for 40 years and have recently started doing a lot with building and modifying guitars. There was a particular guitar that I just couldn’t get to feel very good until I set the strings at the correct height at the nut and now it plays great. So considering the price as a set of files to use on plastic it is kind of expensive but to consider it as the price to solve a problem it was worth $90 to me to make that guitar playable. They are high-quality tools but as a hobbyist I need all the help I can get to justify my hobby lol.
