This descender plate is made very well, with precision engineering and machining, but there is no telling what the metal is made of, and no way to tell if the 40kN rating is accurate. They need certification. Full star off for lack of recognized 3rd party certification for something that will literally hold your life in the balance. I don't doubt that it will hold my weight (tested it), or that it will stand up to a line jerk from a fall, but from how high, and how much more weight than myself? Certification would make me feel a whole lot better about using this, and without it, it will be left serving as an emergency reserve, only to be used if nothing else is available.Four Star Descender Plate without Certification

I have not used it yet for the intended purpose (to allow you to suspend more items from quickdraw lines), but I have felt and used climbing carabiners, rigging plates, and other climbing gear before, and this is to the same rigorous standard of quality as they all must be. It is cheaper than many offerings (though not the cheapest, so do your research), and the bright blue color is easy to locate on most any background. It is as good as most any rigging plate in its break strength category.
