I purchased the EWZ201C to control exterior lights on a single circuit. I wanted the lights on between 6:45 am and 9 pm, but not while the sun is up. While that sounds easy, it took some tinkering to get to a good solution. The challenge is that “on at sunset” and “off at sunrise” are events, and don’t override other timed events. That’s fine for most of the year, but when the sun rises before 6:45 am, the “off at sunrise” event would trigger BEFORE “on at 6:45 am”, which would leave the lights on all day.I was initially able to work around this with a carefully crafted holiday schedule, all in single-channel mode. Then I realized that two-channel mode would make everything easy: I simply had to wire the switches for the two channels in series. With that change, I programmed channel 2 to be on from dusk to dawn, then programmed channel 1 to be on from 6:45 am to 9 pm. Only when both conditions are true do both switches close, turning on the lights. So, the EWZ201C works well, and two-channel support proved extremely helpful even to control a single circuit.

This is complicated to program, so follow the vague instructions until you finally get it right. On two units the capacitor wore out in six years, and is not replaceable, thereafter the unit looses programming with every power outage. Not a good value especially if you pay to have it installed/replaced. Not suitable for important security lighting unless replaced every five years.

The features I laik about this product are the weatherproff case, the super capicatior (no batteries) and the accuracy - the clock does not drift much like others. The programming is a bit different but once understood it is easy. In Astro mode it auto operates on and dusk off at dawn. That does not need to be set. So you just need to program the other off and on times. I set mine to on at 4:15 AM and off at 10:15 PM and Astro mode. Therefore, on at 4:15 AM and off at dawn and on at dusk and off at 10;15 PM. I did have to program an offset for both dusk and dawn - but that was easy also once understood.I should add that the installation requires electrical work - it is hard wired and there are no plugs. The 120 version has a Normally Closed and a Normally Open connection. This in itself requires electrical prowess. For me this is great - but for others maybe not. The instructions clearly state that an electrician is required. With no batteries to ever change and auto daylight savings time and leap year and very little clock drift - you never have to touch it. Recommended over all others i have used in 20+ years. I have been using astro timers since they were first introduced. I wish they offered a stainless steel case but that is OK if the plastic one holds up.I should note that electrical work is required, there are no plugs and it is only directly connected. The 120 model also has normally open and normally closed contacts. The normally closed (NC) contact is energized when the timer is off. Nice feature but requires electrical understanding. The manual clearly states that an electrician is required for installation.

Nice piece, but a bit complicated for my simple mind. I was replacing a 1980’s mechanical commercial timer for my outside apartment lights that turned six lights on and off once a day. I got this timer, and it took a couple of YouTube videos to program it for this simple task. I hate messing with it and hope we finally get rid of daylight savings time just so I don’t have to make adjustments. Yes, it does have an auto adjust for daylight savings, but trying to avoid that lesson.

I bought this item as I need a timer that can do 10 time controls on my thermostat per weekday. I am still testing it but my concerns are ease of programming and accuracy.Contrary to some reviews, I found the timer to be easy to program. Perhaps the video that is posted with the description wasn't available at that time. The video is very educational and useful.I'm presently testing the item for accuracy and will post an update after I run it for a week or so. For me, accuracy is finding that the clock is accurate and stable. I might add that I did quite a bit of research and this product was amazingly affordable. I will update this review after I do further clock accuracy tests.I need this timer to control my thermostat with five on/off cycles per weekday. I basically use it as a load controller to control my thermostat. Nobody makes a thermostat that can be controlled by the minute. Because my electric utility charges $17.44 per Kw of demand, calculated hourly, and my A/c plus vampire loads equals in excess of 6 Kw, I need to limit the A/C to 15 minutes per hour during the Demand time. If you don't understand, it just means I run my A/C for 15 minutes per hour between 3 PM and 8 PM.The accuracy of the clock was important as was ease of programming. This device has an accurate clock and appears to be very dependable in it's execution of schedules. I give it 5 stars for my application. Also I found it very east to program. I did a lot of searching to find this product and I'm very happy with it. I have no connection to the manufacturer and this is my honest opinion.Terry

It works just as advertised. You tell it your latitude and it estimates when sunrise and sunset is throughout the year. You can give it an offset from its calculated times; since it doesn't know where you are in your time zone you probably want to use this feature. I have on set for 20 mins after sunset and off set for 10 mins before sunrise. The setup isn't too bad, if you're used to dealing with consumer electronics you can figure this out just fine. The manual is adequate at best but leave some things up to the user to figure out. There are plenty of other modes including a one-button override (switches off if on, and on if off) and a full manual mode. It automatically adjusts for daylight savings time. I like this unit a lot and it saved a bunch of money and frustration over dealing with a photocell. Highly recommended.
