I bought these boots almost a year ago and they have been perfect! I did some training all spring and hiked daily on our trip last summer to Yosemite / Sequoia NP. They are very waterproof and keep feet dry, but I normally wear a wool blend sock. Also fit was very good and didn’t take too long to break in (about 2 3-4 mile hikes).

This boot has the best built in arch support. I have worn a previous pair out because the soles are leather and wear out faster then rubber. Otherwise I would buy another pair.

I'll start the review by saying I am not a hiker. I live in the hills, so a walk down the lane or up my backyard is a hike and requires tread and support (and waterproof after a rain). However, a trip to the grocery store or a walk down the road does not require a hiking boot so the more agressive models like the sawtooth are just too heavy for me. That's why when I saw reviews for these boots not holding up to real hard hiking I thought maybe they'd be light weight enough for me. (They are)Pros:Very supportive. I enjoy the arch and heel cup.Width is wide enough for my picky feet. My pinky toe on my "big foot" gives me a lot of trouble when buying shoes. By the end of a long day on my feet these are still able to accommodate. I ordered a wide width. They're a little bit more attractive than other hiking boots as well. This is definitely at the bottom of my list. It's a factor, but not top priority.Cons:My heels slip. I have to keep the laces tight. They are the right length so I don't think a size down would help but rather they just need to form to my foot. The cuff is bruising my ankle. This is probably part to do with having to lace them so tight but the Merrells I have tried on had a much softer tongue and my previous pair of timberlands didn't do that either.Shock absorption is lacking. These things are hard. Another reason I suspect I'm bruising. I haven't been in a real shoe for a while so I'm going to give it a few days of in the house wear to see if this subsides. If the bruising doesn't subside in three days I'm returning them.Overpronation is kind of in-between for me, they protect me from it enough that they pass, but not as much as other trail shoes/hiking boots and even my chacos. This could be an advantage to give you some agility on a trail but I don't want agility, I want stability.Lastly, the color.... Ugh. Why do the wides only come in two colors? The sage color is toned down-ish enough to be wearable but they clash with a lot of my dress colors. Again, not top priority but something brown would be nice to be more neutral.Overall I like them enough to consider them keepers, which is hard for me to do. A few days wear will show but if not I'm off to try a Merrell or Timberland.Update: I'm returning these. The pain in my arch started to remind me of a pain I haven't had since I worked in food service in a pair of converse. Pain started in my arch and the second day it had connected all the way up to the side of my knee. I had it before a long time ago and I knew I could not keep wearing these. Oboz is the most expensive hiker I've tried and I really think the company could afford to put something better in the midsole. It's a shame because everything else is right but they are so hard, harder than other hikers, trail runners, or chacos. Going back to my tried and true timberlands.

This is my first pair of Oboz, as I’ve always had Keens, but it won’t be my last. The arch support is very good and they fit snugly but are not tight. Your feet feel very supported and there’s plenty of padding in the soles. I’ve worn these all day on several different days and my feet never feel tired. Great shoes!

I'm one of those who's still in mourning for . . . dang, can't remember the name, but IYKYK. They were bought by Teva a few years back, then discontinued entirely.Anyway, the Sypes are the closest I've found in terms of being lightweight and immediately comfortable (no breaking in).Note: I have flat feet (so my forefoot spreads out, requiring a generous toebox), and a very narrow heel. Other reviewers noted that these run narrow, so I ordered them in wide, and I'm glad I did.

I wear these approx 4-5 hours a day everyday, sometimes more, on my farm. They are genuinely waterproof (unless submerged or its a torrential down pour and it runs in the top) but still breathable. I am in FL so in the height of summer sometimes my feet get a bit sweaty but that's unavoidable, its really hot. Because I wear them so often and have a gait abnormality, I go through a pair in about 4 months, typically the interior lining shreds and becomes mishapen so they no longer fit correctly or the sole will separate (which I just shoe glue back together for a time). They are very comfortable for doing all kinds of chores and walking and climbing on my farm as well as hiking, even in loose sand. I have good traction wet or dry ground. DO NOT ever ever put these on a boot dryer or it will melt the plastic waterproof liner inside and they will shrink up to only fit tiny children's feet. Stuff them with papertowel or newspaper and let them air dry! I like the choices in colors, I've had the red, green, and blue, plus they offer a wide footbed, very comfortable.

The Oboz Sypes boots run a bit narrow, perfect for my foot but likely not for a person with wide feet. I wore the boots in the house for a few hours and loved the support. Next was a 4.5 mile hike, followed by a 6.5 mile hike, both on uneven dirt trails with roots. They were comfortable with no rubbing; no breaking in needed. They are touted to be waterproof but I haven't tried that yet. All in all, after trying boots by 6 different manufacturers, I am delighted with these. They are sturdy and seem well built, and I expect to use them for years.
