Product Description

The new Ortofon Exclusive 2M Black LVB 250 model

This year, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, we announce the release of the 2M Black LVB 250 Exclusive Model. The 2M Black flagship from Ortofon is widely acknowledged as being one of the best MM cartridges on the market, but at Ortofon being the best doesn’t mean that we can’t get better.

Ortofon LVB 250

Benefits of high-end materials

The 2M Black LVB 250 has been recreated from the concepts of its predecessor, the 2M Black, but the 2M Black LVB 250 performance takes one step further to enhance the cartridge’s capabilities and technical excellence.

The 2M Black LVB 250 uses a Nude Shibata diamond on a Boron cantilever, the combination known from the acclaimed MC Cadenza Black cartridge.

The Nude Shibata stylus’s slim, highly polished profile allows an exceedingly wide contact area to the groove walls and ensures notably detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the highest frequencies. The use of an extremely stiff and lightweight Boron cantilever adds remarkable transparency, speed and responsiveness.

The new rubber compound formula

To attain an optimal interaction between compliance and damping, a new rubber compound for the suspension system has been developed.

The new rubber compound formula is based on the Multi Wall Carbon Nano Tubes (MWCNT) highly efficient nano filler. The new MWCNT-based compound offers desirable mechanical properties, which ensure better damping and improve the overall performance of the cartridge.

The MWCNT powder is applied in a rubber polymer matrix and not in a powdered form, which makes the production process more clean, non-polluting and energy saving.

Since I already had a 2M Black I held off for a couple years. I wish I hadn't! It is truly remarkable. While the 2M Black was very faithful to the music, the LVB adds an ambiance that was totally missing from that otherwise superb cartridge. You can actually hear the true sense of presence. Last night I was actually startled as I was listening to a new pressing of Gladys Knight's greatest hits. On the last cut of the first side she cuts in speaking the first words of Time to Remember. I actually jumped. I could have sworn that someone had called to me. Another great experience is Jean-Luc Ponty's Cosmic Messenger. With the LVB the rich fullness of the violin is truly rewarding. Last but not least, the MoFi of Ellington at Newport sounds like a totally different album. It places you squarely in the live audience.

Upgraded from the Ortofon 2M Bronze. I can notice the improvement in the 2M Black LVB. There are sounds and nuances in instruments and voices I'd not ever heard before. I'm glad I took the leap and purchased it. Hopefully it will be a cartridge that lasts for a long time.

I’ve been using an Ortofon Black for over a year, and have been very pleased with its performance. After reading reviews of the Ortofon 250 LVB, I was anxious to see for myself. Right out of the box, there was a noticeable difference. It’s like having the artist play right in front of you. I don’t see how it can get any better when it is broke in, but I’m sure it will. I am very happy with the purchase.

This cartridge is high quality, and sounds phenomenal (like the Ortofon 2M Black). I'm unsure if the differences are worth it unless you have a Hi-Fi system in place... that being said, if you have a system in place, I highly recommend upgrading to the LBV 250.I'm writing this review with the following components or my system, to keep in perspective;- Marantz 40n (Integrated Amplifier)- 2 x JBL Studio 80's (S80's)- U-Turn Audio Turntable (Custom) Orbit; Plywood base, Acrylic PlatterThe details of the cartridge are evident on any LP over the 2M black. The boron cantilever makes a difference in this, and tracks extremely detailed for a MM cartridge. Bass sounds lower, and more precise. Instruments, in general, sound more separated (sound clearer), and precise. This is especially noticeable in faster tempo music (I.e. metal, jazz and subgenres).Any audiophile will indulge in this cartridge with the proper set-up. I've listened to records everyday I've been home since installing this.

I just got this cartridge to replace my 2M Black, and trust me, it is absolutely spectacular! I now have Leonard Bernstein conducting the New York Philharmonic in my living room. And Fritz Reiner conducting the Chicago Symphony. And Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. And Maria Callas. And Carole King. And Donald Fagen. And... you get the idea. I've concluded that it's the last cartridge that I'll ever need to play my vinyl. Extremely highly highly recommended. Get yours NOW!

I have got my Fluance RT-85 with Ortofon 2M Blue, then upgraded it to Ortofon 2M Black. I was really happy with 2M Black until I learned about 2M Black LVB 250. So, you may think - what is the point to upgrade? Well.. it was a well worth upgrade: all high frequencies are WAY MORE DETAILED, and you can hear every single nuance of a vinyl record. The flip side of the upgrade: you will also hear all pops, cracks and static - so if you happen to have vinyl records with cracks/pops, you may need to think twice., On the other hand, if you can afford to spend $995 on a 2M LVB cartridge, you should be able to find vinyl records in better shape. THis is the BEST POSSIBLE upgrade for MM cartridge for the majority of turntables. The next level is Ortofon MC Cadenza - but those cartridges can cost you $2,750 or more - that's way above most budgets.
