It is a step down from the Lamy Safari in most aspects, but not enough to criticize it too harshly, especially for the price. It writes as well as the Lamy but it doesn't sit as naturally in the hand. You need to be sure to orient the nib precisely right for a smooth and continuous line whereas the Lamy orients itself automatically because of the shape that cradles the fingers just right.

This is my 4th fountain pen and second Platinum Preppy fountain pen. If you are new to fountain pens, this is the pen to get! These pens cannot be beat for the value. You get a surprisingly well made pen that writes very well for cheap. However, the pen only comes with one ink cartridge so I would suggest ordering more ink cartridges or even better, order the Platinum converter for it, they come in silver and gold, either one will work. The converter costs more than the pen itself but the amount of ink it holds is worth the cost. You won't be disappointed with this pen.

I love this pen and purchased it after I watched a review. The pen fits perfectly into my hand, the nib is just right for sketching, and the price is reasonable. I had a little trouble getting the ink to flow after I let the pen sit for 2 weeks, but after "coaxing" it a little it worked just fine. Overall I would recommend this pen to anyone for sketching.

Was packed in a simple plastic sleeve as shown in photo, and shipped in a bubble mailer.Pen was usable in 10 minutes after installing ink cartridge. A single supplied cartridge of black ink is not waterproof. Writes nicely on smooth paper. Writes well in reverse for a finer line.The only printing on the barrel is "P PLATIMUM preppy" in white. A sticker with barcode/info removed easily and cleanly. This 'Fine' pen is labeled 03 on top of the cap in white, and 03 is engraved on the nib.I would recommend this budget fountain pen. It's nothing fancy but highly functional.

This was my first purchase on Amazon ever, way back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. It was like $1 and I was a freshman in HS. I loved it so much and had it for 9 years (replaced the ink obvi) and lost it in a recent move. So I’m replacing it and bought a second one to gift to one of my employees. 10/10 flows great and lasts forever if you take care of it. The threads do get loose because my nervous tick is screwing and unscrewing it. However, I use a little thread lock from AutoZone and it works like a charm.

La primera vez que usaba esta marca de plumas y me deje llevar por un amigo que me la recomendó. Es todo un acierto. La pluma en si desliza genial es suave y un trazo finísimo. A pesar de ser de plástico normalito por fuera el mecanismo funciona como una cara. Deberías darle una oportunidad si nunca la has probado y te gustan las plumas. Color de la tinta como carbón/lápiz. Recalcó que el cuerpo de la pluma viene en un platico algo endeble pero la plumilla parece resistente.

I thought I'd try a fountain pen to make writing a bit more interesting. I normally just jot down a few notes for work - don't really use a pen outside of work (not yet anyway!). A few searches online and you'll see that the Platinum Preppy is one of the highest recommended, with lots of people saying it writes the same as many more expensive pens.Firstly, it is plastic, but feels quite heavy and well built. It comes with an ink cartridge (you just have to push it down to activate it, and wait for a while for the ink to flow - I also shook the pen quite a bit). Be careful not to screw the pen together too tightly as it's easy to crack.I'm left handed, so I find that the 0.3 is perfect as the ink dries up quickly before I can smudge it. Saying that though, the ink that comes with this is fantastic. I quickly wrote something and rubbed my finger across it and no smudges - it was already dry!Writing with this is very easy. This is my first fountain pen and to be honest I was scared that I wouldn't be able to figure out how to write with it, but it seems to just be about the angle you hold the pen/point the nib. I can write very quickly with it without having to think about how to write with it at all - if that makes sense!If you look online, there are ways to use bottled ink if you prefer - there's also a converter you can purchase if you wanted to. I find the original inks to be very good though, so highly recommend the platinum inks that are designed for it.There is a sticker with the barcode etc on - but it's not one of those nasty ones where you can't easily remove it. It just peels off easily in 1 pull - no residue left on the pen at all!Don't think I'll be going back to ballpoint - these make writing interesting again. Loads of fantastic fountain pens to upgrade to after this one as well.Very happy with this pen - bought a few as no doubt they'll go missing after a while as with my other pens...Highly recommended - this is one of the best you can buy especially if you're just starting out.I hope this review helps you with deciding whether to buy this or not - I don't think you'll be disappointed with the pen!
