I am a sculptor welding 1/4" rod metal armatures for various projects. These gloves are great. They are soft enough to work well new, but are loosening up even more. The extra leather on the fingertips is nice since I often hand hold the initial tack weld. These are plenty high to go over the end of my sleeves. You can't go wrong with this purchase at this price. There is a lining on the inside which slightly increases the bulk, and when the room is hot they can be warm to wear. Medium was true to size with other leather gloves.

These are what i needed. They are very sturdy in construction and protect your hands from the heat. Now i will say my index finger does get hot after about 3hrs of welding but if you take the glove of and shake it a bit it cools fast. Because of the leather and being new the first few uses are stiff but soften up over time. I like these welding gloves

I am absolutely amazed with the quality & performance of these gloves. One of my Harbor Freight "premium" welding gloves had a seam failure, so I was looking for a new pair. I'm not a professional welder by any stretch, but I've gotten pretty good at running a flux-core welder for farm machinery/trailer repairs & DIY fabrication projects. The gloves I had were decent, but a little too small for me and not too comfortable to wear for more than a few minutes. I'm a big guy at 6'3" & 315lbs that can palm a basketball. So most gloves tend to feel tight and restrictive. These XL size fit great and have a super-soft fuzzy liner like the inside of a new pair of sweatpants. They keep my hands from getting sweaty and the soft leather does not restrict your motion or ability to feel the parts you are working on. The leather is double-thick where it needs to be. They keep you from getting burned by sparks and slag, fit well for guys with big hands, and are comfortable to wear for long projects or an honest days' work.

I ordered these to use with my wood burning fireplace and not for welding.The temperature reaches 500 degrees plus and the back of my hands were burning when I added wood using the gloves I got from the place where I purchased my insert.I realized that the back of the gloves were cloth and the heat had deteriorated the knuckle areas on the gloves. The new ones are leather all the way around and the gloves go well up the arm. Highly recommend you get these instead of "fireplace" gloves
