I still have a gyroscope from my youth but the stand is gone. I saw this and thought it would be a great toy for my grandchildren. It looks identical to the one have except the rainbow color, and works great.A great toy to introduce children to physics too.

1. Piece of Chinese junk, string easily gets caught in a space between the shaft & the frame (see other reviews about broken string)2. When you do get the string wound correctly on the shaft and are able spin it up, it doesn't spin for long maybe 15 seconds? Not long enough to do a good demonstration on gyroscopic inertia & angular momentum

Got this as a gift for my 9yr old. He absolutely loves this plays with it everyday. He's a little science geek so he loved looking up all the science terms for it and how to use a gryroscope in real life scenarios. This brand seems to stand up to being dropped, it spins beautifully, and he can assemble it quite easily. Would recommend 10/10 for science lovers

I've just received this fancy spinning top, and let me tell you, it's like we've entered a time warp back to the days of simple, yet mesmerizing fun. My two boys, who usually treat toys like they're in a demolition derby, have found their zen with this contraption.First off, setting it up is as easy as pie - if pie meant pulling a string and watching magic happen. You yank that string, place this bad boy on its base, and voila! You've got yourself a spinning spectacle.The fun factor? It's like watching a mini tornado in your living room, except without the cleanup. My kids have turned this into a full-blown competition, trying to see who can keep it spinning the longest before it decides to take a dramatic dive off the base.The build quality is surprisingly sturdy; I half expected it to disintegrate under my boys' enthusiasm, but nope, it's holding up like a champ. The only downside is that once you start, you'll find yourself getting hypnotized by the spin, possibly forgetting about responsibilities like, oh, I don't know, dinner or bedtime.Now, a word of caution: this top might just be the calm before the storm. Once the spinning stops, expect your kids to demand an encore performance. And another. And another.5 stars for simplicity, entertainment, and that satisfying 'whoosh' sound as it spins. 0 stars for my ability to get any work done while it's in action. Would buy again, if only to see how long my kids can stare at a spinning object in awe.

Good quality. Works well. Fun. Only complaint is that the string broke easily. We replaced it with another stronger string and now it works well again.

My son requested a colorful gyroscope for Christmas, so we got him this one. He enjoys playing with it and seeing all the cool ways it can spin (even on the tip of a pencil!). I appreciate the heaviness of the metal, it feels substantial and not cheap. The only complaint he has is he wishes there were some easier way to spin it, instead of winding all the string around the axis...it takes some practice to get it to spin just right. Other than that, he loves it.

These gyroscope toys were popular when I was a kid (a long time ago!). I found an old one in the attic and showed it to my 12- year old daughter. She was intrigued but the string was damaged so it didn’t work very well. We found this inexpensive one on Amazon and it was nearly an exact duplicate of my old one! It was shiny and new and had a strong string. She loves playing with it and having races with the two of them!

My eleven year old grandson got great Christmas gifts but this seems to be his favorite. It stimulates his scientific inquisitive mind. Highly recommend if you have a child that thinks outside the box.
