Product Description

Keep interior wood projects looking beautiful with Minwax Oil-Modified Polyurethane Wood Finish. The water-based clear top coat combines superior durability with the beauty of traditional polyurethane. It adds long-lasting beauty and protection to interior wood surfaces including woodwork, furniture, doors, cabinets and floors. Plus, you can get more done with this protective poly coating. It’s an ultra fast-drying clear coat that allows for quick recoats in 2 hours, and because it’s water-based, it has a low odor and easy cleanup with warm water. It can be used on both finished and unfinished wood projects, and is available in a variety of sheens. Application Directions:

1. Surface must be dry and free of old finishes in poor condition, paint, wax, grease, polish, dirt or other foreign matter.

2. Sand to obtain a smooth, uniform surface. Do not use steel wool. Remove all sanding dust. Thoroughly wipe clean with a damp cloth. Allow to dry completely.

3. If desired, apply Minwax stain to unfinished wood surfaces. Follow directions for application and dry times. Wait 8 hours after staining, before applying Oil-Modified Polyurethane.

4. Stir Oil-Modified Polyurethane before and during use to eliminate settling on the bottom of the can. Stir to rotate the product from the bottom to the top of the can. NEVER SHAKE.

5. Apply a THIN coat of Oil-Modified Polyurethane using a high quality synthetic bristle or foam brush.

6. Let dry 2 hours. Then lightly sand entire surface with fine sandpaper (220 grit) to ensure an even finish and proper adhesion. Remove all dust.

7. Apply a second coat. Oil-Modified Polyurethane requires a third coat; repeat step 6 before application.

8. After final coat, allow 24 hours before light use.

Create a thin layer of Polyurethane to protect my wood work. Can apply multiple layer for better protection.

Received product that is miscolored, appears to have been frozen either in storage or shipping. Did not open immediately, so is beyond return date.Does not provide smooth finish. I’ve used this product before and it was great. Normally a slightly milky white color. Product received is very milky yellow. Goes on “thickly” and streaky

I bought this urethane because my clients didn't want to go with a straight oil base because of the smell. But this worked wonderfully and doesn't give a lot of shine. The color was totally clear and so far the protection's been great. It's been about 3 months of heavy use on the floors and it's holding up very well . I'm a professional painter and I'm happy to have come across this product!

Used this finish on louvered doors that was on top of stain. Layed down nicely as long as the day was cool started to set up quickly in 100 degree heat. Just something to take note of. The finish turned out great with two coats and clean up was easy.

I purchased the Minwax Satin water based oil modified polyurethane and frankly I am baffled by some of the less than stellar reviews of this product. I stained the floors with Minwax oil based Stain in Gunstock color. First- floors are to be lightly sanded between coats and it plainly says not to use steel wool. Secondly, while the drying time is fast, which I loved, common sense should tell you to work in small areas. If you don’t do that and try to work too large of an area, I can see where that could present issues. Third, while there is a smell it is nothing compared to regular oil based polyurethane. I am showing my before and after photos. This damage is due to my dogs and the sand they bring into the house and the resulting damage The finished photo is after three coats of this product. I found it very easy to work with and mine went on very smoothly, resulting in a pleasant feel to the touch and a pleasing look. For the record- I am a 62 yr old female so I feel most anyone can use this product!

Have been doing woodworking for over 30 years and this may be some of the best wood finish I have used. Since it’s water based has very low odor and easy clean up. But it is as thin as water which is both a disadvantage/advantage. Being thin it goes on quick and easy requiring several coats. But that also produces a very professional looking finish. But it also means it dries VERY FAST, faster than any finish I have ever used. So fast that any project larger than a jewelry box don’t use a brush. Use some kind of spray on method, which should work well as I said it is very thin.

Be warned, this product is the oil-modified version of the water-based poly. This means that it will LOOK like oil-based (have the warm coloring) with the fast-drying, easy to clean up attitude of the water-based.Be sure to do some image searched of what the oil-modified finish looks like before you buy this, because if you are looking for the cool tone of water based, this one isn't it.Other than that, miniwax poly is great and I expect my finish to last a very long time.

I know, I know, the "experts" will tell you that oil based polyurethane is the way to go. Well, I like water based polyurethane for a couple of reasons. First of all, I can get it via USPS and secondly, I can't tell a dime's worth of difference between the oil or water based versions. Add to that the comfort and convenience of an easy cleanup and you'll see why I choose the water based product. About the finish: it's clear, non-yellowing and just the thing for those weekend or monthly products. What's not to like?
