I’ve used quite a few different heads throughout the years including the Aquarian Superkick which was pretty rad and boasted positive attention but for the past decade I mostly stuck with the EMAD or GMAD, primarily because they just last forever as long as you take care of them, and I can be pretty heavy footed. They just have a nice modern, low bass tone that’s actually quite versatile and always seems to sound good. However, I’ve been primarily playing Remo heads the past few years and really love them so I ventured down their bass line of heads and found the Powerstroke 4 Smooth White to be a great head with a nice balance of vintage and modern tone but lately felt it lacked some of the deep pillowy low tone and just the overall feel of the EMAD/GMAD. I missed it. Enter this SMT Emporer… holy smokes this head is good. It pounds! With the foam dampener in you get a nice smooth low end bass tone with great beater articulation, whether it be wood, plastic, leather, fleece or felt, the beater definition is there up front. Remove the dampener and it sounds like an Emporer… you get that wobbly vintage tone but with more punch and brightness while still retaining a deep low end… it’s pretty great. I also found this head to be incredibly easy to tune and get it to sound good… for example, with the P4 I really had to mess with the tuning for a while to find a tuning I liked… tap tap tap at every lug over and over again, back and forth, and eventually I got it to where I like it but then I had to figure out what dampening fit well, all to achieve a pretty basic balanced tone and it just seemed like too much effort but I guess there’s something to be said for being able to wrestle up good tone, right? That was definitely not the case with the SMT… I slapped it on the bass, fit perfectly, tuned it up, stretched it, leveled out each lug once more and dialed it back a quarter turn on each lug and it immediately shook the house lol. It takes the guessing out of the equation.Amazing value for this head and excellent quality. I’ll buy this again in a heartbeat. Well done Remo

Sonido impresionante, estuve usando un Evans Hydraulic y decidí pasarme a Remo, sin duda ha sido la mejor decisión después de probar el Emperor SMT, con un sonido más contundenete y con mucho más cuerpo y ataque.
