There is an sideways rectangle of absorbent material at the crotch, abt 4 inches long from front to back. I tried the shorts on, and did not feel confident the placement of the absorbent material was located properly. You def couldn't sleep or lounge around in these shorts. The absorbent patch needs to go much further back to be effective. The absorbent patch does go "down the legs" of the shorts, so they have good protection on the sides. It kinda feels like these were designed by a man. Based off the poor design, I am sending them back.
