A friend had a "handyman" replace the door knob and deadbolt on her front door. For some reason, he decided he needed to drill the deadbolt hole larger. Bottom line: he made a mess of the deadbolt hole and ended up with a 1/8" gap on the outside of the door and a 3/8" gap on the inside of the door. (Aside: he had said he'd be coming back to "fix it", but never did. And that's probably a good thing.)When I found these scar plates, I knew I had found the solution to that mess. The knob and deadbolt are shiny brass and the scar plates are painted gold, and I was worried about what that might look like, but it ended up not being an issue. Very close in color, although (obviously) not a match for finish. And the finish quality of the paint and plates isn't great, but it's pretty good, and the imperfections I saw when I was holding them in my hand aren't really noticeable when they're installed. To install: Remove the old deadbolt, put the plates on either side of the door, and reinstall the deadbolt. It helps to have either some blue tape or a helper to hold things in place. Easy-peasy.

First, I'm a product tester meaning my reviews are 100% critical. I'm 63 and retired after 32 years USMC so I've seen good and the bad. Screws loosen and doors scratch, this fixes that. A+

I have a metal door that has (had) styrofoam insulation, that gets crushed over time, so the door knob is perpetually loose on the door.Simply cranking down on the screws only distorts the door further (and not a real option for fancy handlesets), so 'thickness adaptor' plates are super helpful for making the handleset fit better - at least until I can afford a new, better door!I was planning on making my own 'door thickener plates' until I saw these - and I can use one or two as the case requires it!My doors are white, so these look nice (nearly invisible).A perfect solution to the problem!!

Needed to conceal ring marks which would be visible with new door knob and found these. While the new knobs are a glossy brass/gold color, I can always spray paint the pair of these plates since they aren’t an exact finish match, but good enough.Since the fronts and backs of the plates are well finished, one can always experiment with spray painting one side to test it. In fact, don’t worry about finding a color match knowing spray painting is an option.
