Thermolite Reactor Liner

The THERMOLITE Reactor liner is our top seller in the sleeping bag liner range. It's an excellent cold weather option for those who need additional warmth. This is a super stretchy, soft, and comfortable choice with a mummy shape, foot box and a drawcord hood. Compact and lighter weight than fleece, this is a top seller for good reason.

THERMOLITE FABRIC

The Reactor Series Sleeping bag liners and the foot boxes of the Women’s Trek, Talus and Latitude Sleeping Bags use hollow core THERMOLITE fiber to add warmth. Hollow cores fibers trap extra air for insulation (just like the hollow-cores of polar bear or caribou fur). Knitted THERMOLITE fabric is soft and stretchy and comes in three different weights: 80g/m² fabric used in the Reactor and the underside of the Compact Plus liners; a 110g/m² fabric which is used in the Extreme, and the core and foot box of the Compact Plus liner; and the Fleece, the warmest of all the fabrics.

I try to go light weight and use a snugpak jungle bag and this is great for some extra warmth.

This really works to add several degrees of warmth. In a recent campout, I was shivering in my 19F sleeping bag when the outside temperature dropped to around 30-32 F, but it stopped once I put it on. However I am not using it as often as I should because it is, to me, a hassle to get in and out of this bag. It is basically shaped like a sleeping bag and you have to use the zipper on the side to get in and out. Because it is thin, it can cling on to you as you try to get in and out. Doing it in a sleeping bag and in a tent with not that much room is a pain. Imagine you have to get out to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and come back to crawl back in in the dark ...

Took this on my first backpacking trip to Death Valley in January (3 nights). It was colder than expected. The second night so cold our water froze. This liner not only made my sleeping bag cozy but added every bit of extra warmth advertised and some. Well worth the extra money and space in the pack. This will be a staple piece of my sleeping gear even in warmer weather - it adds that extra bit of comfort and to any sleeping bag. I also love the lining between dirty, several days into the trip body and the sleeping bag. It’s super easy to toss the liner in the wash and keeps the sleeping bag from having to be sent out for cleaning after every trip.

Para fazer trilhas, peregrinações ou caminhadas com locais para dormir programados, o line é uma excelente opção, pois seu peso é pequeno, ocupa pouco espaço e aquece bem com pouco frio.

I was motorcycle camping this weekend in the Tahoe National Forest with the temperature at night in the high 30's and I knew I would be cold based on my past experience with my sleeping bag and insulated air mattress. This bag liner fit the bill perfectly as it added just the right amount of warmth plus also did not take up much space given that I had to carry everything in my saddlebags.

I went on a substantial trip about 70 miles into the Utah desert in early November.I discovered that I had COVID on the first night, when I woke up with a fever, sweating and shivering uncontrollably. My sleeping setup has been fine for similar conditions in the past, but when you mix in a fever, you get sweating and hypothermia even with proper gear. I managed to stuff this liner into my bag after waking up and, despite it effectively feeling like just t-shirt material, the bit of additional dry insulation made a huge difference and I was able to comfortably sleep through the rest of the night. Not sure if I would have actually died if I didn't have this liner, but the thought has certainly crossed my mind.

"Up to 14 degrees warmth" is super optimistic, in my opinion. I have a 35F-rated (and well reviewed) bag and I was very uncomfortable in it on a 37F night even using this product. It's just too thin - air goes straight through it, so it doesn't really "insulate". It's also very narrow in the foot area, and if you don't get into it just right, and it gets twisted or bound up anywhere, you run out of length and your feet get jammed up.For the 9oz and $50 this adds to your load, on a short trip you could do better with a few "mega warmers." Walmart also regularly offers sells a 4'x5' fleece blanket for $2 (not a typo) that's a denser weave than this yet still only weighs 10.5oz. It doesn't compact quite as much but it comes close, and you can double that up on top of you if you're a ground-sleeper with a good pad. You could even make one yourself out of raw material of any weight you like.I don't mean to be overly critical. The product is well made, it definitely packs the tightest of any option, and it does add some warmth - not 14F, but more than zero. I just personally don't think it's worth anywhere near $50. If this was priced closer to $20 I might reconsider it.

Tried it out with the Adventure Medical Kits SOL emergency Bivvy just to see what to expect. A nice addition in an emergency I would expect. However I also keep it in the car when a passenger needs a blanket for road trips, works good for a little warmth in the hammock, and could be used for some extra shade in a pinch. Just don't expect this to be like your fleece blanket at home. Its a lightweight blanket (you can see thru the fabric) that works fine as an add on or companion item in your pack. For what it is its great just don't expect it to be anything more then a giant scarf. :)

I have nothing bad to say about this sleeping bag liner. I have no way of proving the claims of the manufacturer as to adding degrees to your sleeping bag, however.I carry this with me on summer camping trips instead of a sleeping bag to save weight. I crawl into it while napping in the hammock sometimes. More than anything, however, I use it instead of renting sheets at hostels. I spent 30 nights in hostels in Iceland and the cost to rent sheets would have been well over $200 for that time. Yay! Chalk one up for the miser. This is also useful to carry if you're staying in actual hotels that provide their guests with linens albeit of questionable hygiene. The drawstring bag is well made and adequate but I often will just stuff the liner into my compression sack with clothes to save on bulk. The material is super comfortable and soft. It's nice to crawl into after a long day of hiking or even just car camping.
