Average product quality.I put a heavy washer between the grommet and bolt to provide some extra strength.Thicker strap material and brass grommets would make this perfect.

Using on my son's Mazda 3 so he can tie anchor the front of his kayaks. Found a spot under front of hood, but had to replace the screws with something longer to accommodate thickness of strap. When he's using his kayaks, he pops the hood, pulls them out and uses a 6' cambuckle strap with hooks at either end to secure the right kayak to left strap loop, and the left kayak to the right one (ie. straps cross). He does this because air flow from the highway makes the kayaks want to spread apart in the front and this keeps them in place. When done, he pops the hood and tucks them underneath and closes so they are not visible. Work perfectly and allow him to better secure the kayaks from movement while driving.

These are an absolute necessity on my Jeep Patriot that has no good tie down points.I bought the ones with the rubber end, goes under hood, and it popped out, they are useless in wind. This is strong, easy to install and the perfect solution.

These were so easy to install in my vehicle. I'm glad I purchased these. I can tuck them away if I'm not using them and when I do use them, it looks like I'm an outdoorsy guy and bougie when I'm hauling my kayak in the mountains. They are durable and I can trust that these straps will secure my kayak ties without worry.

I had previously used the straps with plastic handles attached, which were great. However, my garage guy would pull these out (not knowing their purpose), and they would get banged up/squashed. So, at this low price I thought I would try these more permanent straps.I agree with many other reviewers, these were quick and easy to install. Just go under hood and find a bolt near windshield, on each side of car, remove bolt, put this thin strap under bolt and then replace the bolt. This is, literally, a two minute job. When in use, these straps are strong and easy to use as tie points. When not in use, they are very low profile and almost invisible.

These are a simple product that could be made at home. But why do that when you can get these at such a reasonable price. I purchased these in order to provide some stability adding tiedown points for a 16 foot canoe I was hauling atop a 14 foot car. These loops bolted down under the hood using factory bolts. The narrow strap fits well between the hood and fender when the hood is closed. I am also able to fold the strap under the hood when they are not in use. This eliminates the need to unbolt and remove them after each use. When bolting these in pay attention to the thread engagement of the original bolt back into the body panel. While these straps are not thick they do raise the head of the bolt. If you do not ensure good thread engagement then the bolts could strip out the bolt hole threads.

I use these straps along with Sentry Ratchet Kayak and Canoe Bow and Stern Tie Downs 1/4" Grow Light Heavy Duty Adjustable Rope Hanger (2-Pack) that I also purchased on Amazon. They work great. If I had instead tied to an area under the front of my car it would have been difficult and the rope would have rubbed the hood and bumper. I use the tie-down straps on a 2013 Toyota RAV 4 to secure a 9’ kayak mounted on J-bars. You may have to get a little creative to find a secure place to install the strap under the hood of your vehicle. Look for metal and not plastic. I removed a plastic insert and push type rivet and replaced them with a 1” long hex bolt, lock washer and nut so I could secure the strap to the metal frame.

Great item. I've used them in three vehicles now. Attached to existing body bolts under the hood so that you can open the hood, flip out the strap and shut the hood. Bow line goes to the strap and no worries about rubbing exposed paint surfaces line the front of your hood. I have not had problems with wear on the hood edge with these and although it could happen, the edge isn't really a visible surface. For some the easier it is to load up boats, the more often they get on the water. This is a cheap way to help.

Was going to by the Thule brand name but then I thought why spend the extra $$ when really its just a folder over piece of material with a hole in it. Used these traps on my Rav4 (secured them to hood bolts) and they held my canoe in place from Calgary back to Saskatoon. I'm happy.

My wife and I bought some kayaks at the end of last summer and a roof rack for our Ford Focus. We had been using some straps that are attached to a rubber/plastic tube and that is placed just under the edge of the hood since we do not have tie-offs under the front bumper. These were working well however I found that they could slip, which was not ideal as they were being used to secure the kayaks to the front of the car. I purchased these straps which very easily went on under some bolts just under each side of the hood and they work perfectly and are way more secure than the tube straps. And when we are not using them they tuck away under the hood very easily.
