About this item

  • Genuine Shimano replacement cable and housing sets
  • Front & rear derailleur cable & housing set

Derailleur cables and housing rank among the least sexy parts on a bike. Maybe the seat clamp is lower. Maybe. Few think of their cables. And that could be a problem. When your Shimano 7900 Dura-Ace levers seem to move the derailleurs at a glacial pace, it could very well be the derailleur cables and housing are to blame.Cables and housing deteriorate. The more you ride, the more you shift. Each shift wears microscopically. The cable will eventually eat through the liner. And that isn't taking into account what the elements do to the cable. It might start off a stainless, coated work of art, but as time goes on and moisture gets trapped inside, it can start to corrode. Chances are, you should probably replace them much more frequently than you do. Our personal interval is once a year on the housing, twice a year on the cables. So, to get your shifting feeling as crisp as new, it's time to invest in new shift cables and housing. Considering that you have to replace handlebar tape with 7900 shifting, it's a good idea to do your brake cables and housing when you replace your tape. The Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 Derailleur Cable and Housing set comes with two cables, two lengths of housing, and the necessary end caps/ferrules and cable end caps. The housing segments are 4mm wide in diameter, the two lengths are 600mm long and 3320mm long. The cables are 1.2mm in diameter, PTFE-coated, and made from stainless steel. The 7900 cables and housing are compatible with other Shimano cable-actuated road shifting systems. Choose between Black, or Grey to match your frame.

Received order as expected and on time. Enough cable housing for front and rear cables. Rear cable only requires housing from shifter to top of down tube.

The description says these are "Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 Derailleur Cable and Housing"- that was the only reason why I bought these. But these are just the cheap low-end shift cables....

Very misleading picture and description. You get the idea that you are buying 2 long cable housings , two short cable housing and two cables. You get the two cables but only one piece of the housing that is not long enough for the two cables.

Cable set was fine but I was replacing a Dura Ace cable set and looking for Gray cable housings. The color for this item says Gray. I didn't notice on the confirmation e-mail but noticed on the shipping confirmation e-mail that the item's color was listed as Black. I received the Black cable set and decided to return it.

Plenty of housing and cable length. Cuts very well with the right tools. Shifts are very precise initially.

I used it to replace a broken bike brake cable. It works perfectly.

Easy do-it-yourself, although I had to take my Madone to the shop because when my rear cable broke, the head fell inside the shift lever and jammed it. They were happy to install these for me, and didn't charge much for the repair. It shifts like a dream now. The bike is 6 years old with about 14K miles, and I wish I had followed advice to replace cables and housing before this one broke. Riding 20 miles home with only an 11-tooth is not fun! I don't know what the recommended replacement interval is, but I'm thinking about 5K miles is right. Zinn recommends 5mm housings, but I couldn't find any online, and these 4mm are working very smoothly. Note: the photo is deceiving - the housings are not pre-cut, you will need a proper tool.
