They are typically suspended over the heads of the performers. Their high sensitivity and wide frequency range make them suitable for recording, as well as sound reinforcement applications. An attached 101 mm (4 in.) gooseneck allows them to be easily aimed at the sound source. It is hard to believe that such small, unobtrusive microphones can produce such great sound, but it's true. We had one of our overhead choir mics die and one get noisy after many, many years. We dropped these in and they are perfect. Matching connector adapters were included. Easy peasy, and they sound great!

Shure makes good equipment. I own a lot of it. I use mine (2) for audience participation in recorded conference room presentations. The size and color are good for minimizing their visibility on camera. The gooseneck allows for aiming. The difference that I noticed with this mic has more to do with the pickup pattern. Previously, I was using Shure ceiling mounted button mics with an omni-directional pattern. I ordered this mic with a cardioid pattern, not super c, and there's a noticeable difference - less hiss and less off axis clutter. I would add that, for normal voice recording in a quiet room, the distance to source needs to be 3 feet or less. Finally, I suggest taking a sound print of a silent room and applying it to the recordings in post.

Great overhead mics. I work with a small community theater and we upgraded our sound sysrem. We have a small stage and two are more than enough. We will get a lot of use out of them.

I have used these for 3 years now. A much improved option for our stage shows than what I used to use. A pair of cardioids at the front of the stage. We have too many actors to mic everybody. Too much movement to mic one spot. These pic up a huge area, with good balance. Of course your mic to speaker distance has to be minimized to 1 to 3 or even less. But if I have my speakers about 4 times the distance I can pick up a soft whisper and hear it clearly.These mics work great for the vocal range, not great for instruments. Distorts tones outside human range. Not saying they won't pick it up, but it sounds a bit off. So make sure your instruments aren't relying on these.
