Buying a big pack of these saved me money. They hold up well and are as good as anything you pay more money for.

Purchased 4 dozen ($12.99/doz), tan and white for my husband and family members to use as masks to run quick errands to the grocery store. I must caution you though, first of all you must wash them in hot soapy water about 4 times to get the chemical smell out of them. These are made in China so God only knows what chemicals were used to press the fabric, but I'm certain they aren't safe. Second, these are made of thin cotton so after you dry them you may notice the seams on the edges may come undone. I would say this happened to about a third of mine. Not a deal breaker for me though because they were inexpensive and still work as a mask. And lastly, because the cotton is thin to wear as a mask I recommend you fold in another thicker and tighter knit fabric inside the bandana for better coverage. For this, I took a couple of tea towels and cut them in half. I also found that cloth diapers/burp cloths work too. I think I like them better because they're softer.Remember to launder mask after each use. Scary times we live in!

If you bought these to make homemade masks like I did, please do not purchase them. You would have to put several of them together for them not to be see through. They say 100% cotton but it must be 100% scratchy, cheap and fraying cotton. They were scratchy and see through and cheap from out of the box but my husband said "maybe they will soften up after a washing"Well, I did not see the "hand wash to keep shape" on the description until now. No wonder why they recommend that because when I machine washed them and before I put them into dry ALL the bandannas were frayed on all sides. I have one bandanna from my concert days in the 80's that I still use and I have washed and dried it a thousand times and it still looks new. They won't even be good rags but we are trying to see what we can use them for as not to waste material. I refuse to send these back. Drivers and workers don't need to be processing a return for these cheap items when they have more important things to deliver and worry about. Please do not buy these if you are using for homemade masks! I know homemade masks are not intended to be like respirators; they are intended to minimize your risk of a direct contact due to sneezing or coughing but even so, I would be very worried about them having any benefit to you.

My boyfriend uses these for work everyday . I got the black with red and the blue ones . They’ve been washed multiple times and are still holding up. I don’t know if they bleed when they wash because I washed them with the darks just in case. They get more flimsy as you wash them, just like any other material . But it’s a good price for what you get.

UPDATE: 2020/07/08So I bought another pack of these. The old ones had been so handy as sweat bands and such that I thought it would be good to have more, so I ordered some. The quality has really taken a huge dip. The ones I bought from 2017 are still in good shape after many washings. These new ones are already coming apart at the "hems". I use the term lightly as I think I stitched a better hem the first time in junior high sewing class.I only knocked two stars as the material is actually still decent and these are actually square where the old ones were ever so slightly rectangular (I measured the old ones, they vary from 12 x 10 to 12 x 11). The new ones are all almost dead on 12 x 12 (give or take an eighth inch). What's frustrating is the quality went down but the price went up. If I paid what I paid in the past or less I wouldn't have cared.OLD REVIEW 2017Washed them in the sink first to break up the fibers. I use them as a sweat band while doing yard work to let the heat out the top of my head. Great stuff. I'll give the same advice i got from my family: however you wash them, do not use fabric softener.
