Received the safe and upon opening it, the safe looked great. It’s heavy duty. That changed fast. Followed the directions for installing the battery and learned the lock is defective. When putting in the manufacturer code to open the lock for the first time, I can hear the locking bolt move, but the locking ring that you turn clockwise is completely jammed. It will not budge. I requested a return to Dean Safe and received a return authorization confirmation stating a “prepaid” return shipping label will be emailed within two days. Two days later I received an email stating a “prepaid” return shipping label is attached. The “prepaid” return shipping label is not prepaid. It’s literally a cute little text box with a border containing the return address. There’s also a place to put a stamp which is marked “postage necessary.” Contacted the seller, Dean Safe, and received this response:We recommend following these best practices to be sure that the seller receives your package:-- Include the order number and any return authorization number on or inside the package.-- Insure the package.-- Use signature confirmation.-- Provide your return tracking number and ship receipt to the seller.-- Ship items via USPS when the seller's return address is a P.O. Box.So what Dean Safe/Amazon refer to as the “prepaid” shipping label is absolutely not prepaid. Dean Safe wants you to pay the return shipping for a defective heavy safe. What a joke. Reviewing the Amazon return policy for this product, I cannot find anything that states the consumer is expedited to pay return costs for a defective product. The policy alternately implies there is a 30 day window of no hassle returns. What a hassle.Since this time I have attempted contacted with Dean Safe directly via their customer support email and have received no response. USPS estimates return shipping at $70.00.

If you’re like me, you do a lot of research on safes. Frankly, there’s a lot of terrible products out there claiming to be gun safes. The reality is a lot of them can be defeated easily. There are some very surprising YouTube videos out there showing just how easily these “safes” can be rendered useless, sometimes in seconds. It’s comical and sad. I’m looking at you, Sentry. In fact, it was one of those videos that made me purchase this safe. The reviewer could not easily defeat this one, and in fact he praised the build quality and the quality of the locking mechanism.Bottom line, this is very well made, with a quality lock, and when bolted down it would take a heck of a beating before giving up what’s inside. Like a good safe should.

Solid and heavy. Purchased to securely store a full size revolver nearby while sleeping. Other pistol safes were not big enough. Did not want to use a nightstand drawer if grandkids were staying over. Easily tucks away under the bed. Has a handle to quickly grab and pull the safe toward you. It needed a security tether to prevent someone (like a child or a guest) from just picking it up and carrying it away. Others have suggested a cable around the handle. The handle pins are very tiny so it seems a screwdriver might be used to break off the handle. I found a Liberty Safe Security Cable with a threaded end. You need to drill a 1/4" hole in the side of the box (place the hole to avoid the strut). The nut is held on with a cotter pin through the bolt end. I secured the cable to the the bedframe with a lock so I wouldn't have to remove the cable attached to the box anytime I wanted to move the safe. I recognize that the cable is only going to prevent opportunistic theft. A cable is easily cut with the right tools. I have a large gunsafe that can be used for better storage when away from the house. The box I received said the keypad beep could be set to silent, quiet or loud. Mine could only be set to low click or beep. I called customer service and they immediately replaced the box with another. However, it still only had the two keypad sounds. I'm OK with that. The click is not very loud and the beep is fine, too. Good customer service at Stealth.

Great safe for handguns or documents. Very secure and easy to get setup. The lid pops right open once the code is punched in. Can fit more than two compacts or two standard sized handguns plus 2 mags each. Highly recommended if you want something secure to keep anyone that isn't authorized out.

I've got a baby on the way, and the wife kept telling me I can't keep my house handgun unsecured anymore. After a little research, I found the ShadowVault SV1. I like the fact that there is no key backup, so there's nothing that can be picked open. It can also hold more than one decently sized handgun. The box itself fits perfectly in my nightstand (bolted down inside), and allows me quick and easy access to my firearm. As you can see from the picture, with the the way I have it positioned, even trying to pry on it is impossible without obliterating my nightstand first. This thing is HEAVY duty. You can tell it's solid just by hefting it. That 7 and 10 gauge steel is no joke. Sargent & Greenleaf is a widely known reliable lock company - I have their regular mechanical combination lock on my main safe, so I had no qualms with this Spartan lock. In fact, I love the ease of entering in my code and twisting the dial to unlock it - it's got me wishing I had that one on my main safe too.I have no worries that this pistol safe will serve me well for years to come, and keep kids/unwanted hands off my weapons.
