I have two identical Pro-Ject turntables. The other has an Ortofon Blue. This Sumiko is pretty close. They are both outstanding cartridges, but this one has more upgrade options without having to buy the whole stylus and cartridge. So once I'm done going through all of my vinyl to test what to clean and keep and what gets tossed, I'll be going straight to the Sumiko Wellfleet stylus. I'm glad I tried this company.

I’m not a self proclaimed audiophile and I don’t believe anyone else would call me that either. In fact, I despise the term. I will say it sounds much better to me than my Grado Presige Green did. I had the Grado for 20 years, only in use off and on for ten of those years and not at all the other ten. Maybe it’s not a great comparison. At any rate, it’s much more detailed and has a lot more even highs and lows. Very warm feeling to me. I’m using it on a Denon DP-1200 with an Audio-Technica AT-HS6BK headshell if that matters to you. I was eyeballing the Wellfeet or even the Blue Point No. 3 Low, but figured I’d dip my toe into Sumiko as a brand first. I’m happy and will probably go crazy upgrading to the Blue Point No. 3 Low as soon as I can.

tenía una at-120e y el canvio me ha sorprendido gratamente. Gran definición y en mi opinion sonido mas calido y con una mejor separación de canales. Muy contento con la compra!!

All phono cartridges have become too pricey including this one. However, the packaging, the ease of install and the performance makes up for the high price to some degree. I like that I can replace the stylus and even upgrade to a better stylus when the time comes. My Technics turntable with this cartridge is giving me the best vinyl record sound that I have ever had.

Replaced an Ortofon Red with this cartridge and immediately noticed much richer, less sceechy sound. I understand it sounds better as it breaks in.Already pretty happy with it, but if it gets better I'll be even happier.

First, the bads:- Bass is heavy, hopefully after severals hours of use it will calm down.-4 pins were thinner than average. As a result, Headshell wires didn’t attach tight. I had to tighten the clamps. This is not normal. I used the same wires with other styluses and they simply slide in tight. The goods:- considerably improvement from stock cartridge came with Denon DP 400. $15 cartridge vs. this, difference was expected.- price is reasonable comparing to all crazy cartridges listed above $300 nowadays.-little Japanese wooden box it came in was super nice. Attention put into that little box (see my photos) is a good indicating of attention put on manufacturing this stylus.I expect to use this daily. Just beware of the issues listed above. Overall I recommend this cartridge.

This cartridge should be in consideration if you’re considering purchasing the Ortofon 2M Red, Nagaoka MP110, or one of the ~$150 USD Technics Microline carts.Wow! What an improvement. As with anything audio related, your mileage may vary! I upgraded from the Sumiko Oyster on my Pro-ject 1-Xpression that is being run through a Kenwood KA-7100 and piped out of a pair of KEF Q350 speakers. The immediate difference in sound quality in comparison to the oyster is night and day. The Oyster is not by “bad” cartridge by any means. The Sumiko Rainier is simply that next step up. It has a nice warm sound but also does a nice job highlighting highs right out of the box.The Sumiko Rainier can be easily upgraded using either the Olympia Stylus or the more expensive Moonstone Stylus. Both options come at more expensive price levels but present a good upgrade path.

Substantial upgrade coming from the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge that came stock on my Pro-Ject debut carbon turntable. The soundstage is much more refined and open. The bass and treble are nice and tight. Excellent quality cartridge, better quality than ortofon (IMO) and also more affordable in the long run. Makes for an easy and more affordable upgrade to the sumiko Olympia and moonstone stylus too. Overall I’m very impressed with this bit and highly recommend this upgrade especially if you have a Pro-Ject debut carbon turntable like myself.Side note - I also suggest using a gel pad stylus cleaner for this stylus. I have a few brushes, including the one that Sumiko includes with their stylus (which is quite nice.) but I find them to be bit more harsh on the stylus in comparison. A gel pad stylus cleaner is the most efficient and safest choice for maintaining your stylus.

I was using an AT95E cart on a TEAC TN280. The cart was pretty good, but after many hours of play, I began to notice a drop in tonal clarity. I decided to upgrade and researched many brands, narrowing it down to Sumiko. Based on excellent reviews, specs, and a price I could afford, the Rainier fit the bill. After carefully setting up the cart, which was pretty easy, I was blown away by the sound! Instrumental separation and breadth was gorgeous. I heard for the first time a triangle in a song faintly tinging in the background. Bass tones are more natural and clearer than ever, as if live. I will surely upgrade within the Sumiko line the next time around.

SUMIKOのカートリッジは2台目。MC型よりも使い易いようです。音域の巾は少々中域に寄っている印象ですが、バランスは良いと判断しました。お勧めアイテムです。
