Love the pool media filter balls, 50 lbs per bag and my filter takes 100 pounds, so 2 bags for the filter and also bought a 3rd bag to put some filter balls into the pool skimmer to catch bugs and leaves and so on, my pool water is still crystal clear after a month of changing out the sand that was in the pool filter:)

Sand works much better, the balls clogged up my pump. Wasted money, I guess it’s a dummy tax!

Much easier to use than sand. Mostly because they weigh so much less.Would be nice if it came with instructions since I've always used sand, and even with sand, I only change the filter once a year so I always forget what to do.

These are advertised for use in pools that employ sand filtration as an alternative. We actually do not have a sand filtration system; we use filter cartridges. However, the pool guy was at our house a couple of weeks ago to acid wash the filters and we talked about alternatives to keep them clean longer. He mentioned these pool filter balls and said I could put them in the skimmer baskets to help trap dirt, small leaves, and everything that passes through the smaller area of the skimmers. Based on our need, the amount of filter balls that come in the package was more than ample for 2 skimmer baskets which was nice; now I can replace them immediately and wash the ones I've removed afterwards. They do a great job of helping to keep the water sparkling clean. And using them is as easy as it sounds like. I literally dumped a handful in each skimmer basket, replaced the lid and walked away. They sink to the bottom of the basket and the water continues to flow through while the balls catch the debris.I wish I had known about these a long time ago!

Last year we purchased an above ground pool and opened the pool with media balls very much like these. We enjoyed a nice clean pool for the first half of the season. The second half of the season, we could not find balls to replace the first batch, so we went with sand. That was a huge mistake as we kept getting algae blooms after we switched to sand. It was a struggle to keep the pool clean after we switched out the balls to sand. This summer I am going back to the media balls, as we had much better luck with those. I didn't know that you could reuse the balls, so that is new information to me. However, I'm not sure I would want to reuse them though as they get pretty nasty catching all the dirt, and I wouldn't want to wash these in my washing machine (that's just me though). I can attest to these balls creating less strain on the pump (compared to sand) as our water flow from the pool pump was much better when using the media balls for sure. I'm glad I found these and they are at a great price right now at around 20 bucks (it's a big bag). I highly recommend media balls for your pool pump!

These media balls are so light! They are so much easier to handle than sand and I'm getting excited for spring, when we open our pool with these as our filtration media. One bag replaces 50lbs of sand, so I needed 5 bags to equate to 250lbs, but these are so light and cost effective as well. I'm just happy not to have to move 250lbs of sand into my filter this year and instead move 5 bags of light media balls. The balls themselves seem to be quite durable and I think that they will do a great job of filtration, considering there will be a filter tank full of them that the pool water will be passing through. It will be interesting to see how they hold out year after year, but from what my research tells me, these should last longer than sand or glass filtration.

I haven't had the chance to fully test this because I got them for next season. I have an above ground Intex pool that I want to convert next season. I've seen plenty of info on how much better filter balls are that I'm ready to try it for myself. So far, I love how light they are and easy to store. When you convert from sand to filter balls, you do have to thoroughly clean and dry the sand filter before switching over. It's supposed to lower the pump pressure and help the jet strength, which I'm all about. Also read that you can throw a few in your skimmer basket to help deal with the gnats (I've been using a skimmer sock and extra fine net to get rid of them.)They do work as a filter medium - I let my 11 year old make a backyard potion in a jar and then he shoved these in and it did filter out a good bit. They did well in the washer and dryer afterwards, too. Can't wait to see how it turns out when we reopen the pool in May.

Water is cleaner but there is still plenty of dirt in the pool after I vacuum it. The vacuum suction was great, but some of the dirt still comes back into the pool after filtering.
