The slice valve design is nice for tight integrations, although with the extra fittings required that may be a wash. Control of flow is ideal and the valve closes securely (even locks in place) although the handle does feel a little fragile (but hasn't broken yet!) Having a separate piece to clip in place to lock open does require you to keep track of additional easily-lost parts.

I haven't hooked up my pool yet, but as soon as I do i'm sure this valve will work great. It seems to be very well built, heavy duty, and closes fully. Can't wait for the warm weather!

this type of valve takes less space than a ball valve, and is useful for non-pressurized, non-critical applications. The valve action is smooth and easy, and I liked the twist-to-lock feature in the closed position. The device for locking the valve into the open position is less reliable: there's a small plastic piece that locks onto the metal shaft but only one of the clips positively locks into place to hold it in place (See photo). Also I found that a plastic tab that is intended to hold the locking device on the handle when not in use had broken off. Seems more like a manufacturing defect than transit damage (box was not damaged).Small issues though and none significantly affect the valve function. Still recommended.

This valve will be perfect for my above ground pool pump. We have typical hose connections from the skimmer basket to the pump, and then returning from the salt generator to the eyelet on the pool. The salt gen has as valve built in, but I've always needed to screw in a plug when doing work on the pump or filter to prevent the water in the pool from coming out the skimmer side. I installed this right at the pump inlet, and put my hose adapter on the other side (see photo). As other reviews have mentioned it takes a bit of force to get it open, over time I expect that to get easier. Because of that I WOULD NOT recommend installing this under the skimmer basket. I fear you could snap something on the skimmer assembly. But mounted on the pump I have no concerns. In the spring I'll tape the threads and put a silicon bead around the edges to ensure it's water tight at the pump connection. All and all a nice valve.

This is as described and works as expected. It was used by our pool technician to replace a faulty valve and now everything is good to go again. We did not install it, but when we received the package it seemed like a well made quality fitting. No issues.

EDIT -- Original Review BelowThis valve broke the very first time I tried to use it. The twist-locking mechanism snapped off when I tried to open the valve, so the valve can no longer be locked closed.A closer look at this valve tells me this is not quite the same design as the other Swimline/Hydro-tools slice valves in my system - they either cheapened the product or I received a knock-off.------------------------------I have these valves already installed on my pool, but this new one will be used for a new add-on project I have in the spring. These valves are super easy to operate, opening and closing with a single swift motion. These even have a locking mechanism to keep them in the open or closed position. Slice valves like these are a great replacement for the ball valves and gate valves that are typically supplied with pool installation kits. When a slice valve is open, it doesn't restrict water flow in any meaningful way, and, when closed, it doesn't leak. These valves are an exact match for all standard Swimline/Hydro-tools (1.5-inch) pool hoses and fittings, and should work with gear from most other major manufacturers.

I got this to replace a plastic ball valve with a broken plastic handle on my pool filter intake. With standard threads, it installed easily. The more important thing is that it is much easier to open and close than the plastic ball valve and less likely to leak. The handle requires less force to open and unlikely to break. The gate valve does have a rubber seal which is likely to fail over time, especially if it is infrequently used. It can be disassembled, but it probably isn’t worth the time to repair based on the cost of just replacing it.One minor issue with it is that the threads come right up to the valve body so there is no room to install it in a recessed area without an extension. I used my old ball valve in the open position to clear the recessed threads on my filter. It is rated for 22 lbs. of pressure so it may not be suitable for a backwash/waste valve on a pool filter that could reach higher pressures.

Valve arrived disassembled. I have no clue how to reassemble it. Holding on to it until pool season arrives. If my boyfriend can figure out how to put it together and it functions properly, I will update my rating appropriately.
