I wanted a rain gauge so I can figure out how many inches, how often, and for what duration I would have to water my lawns in-between rains.I live in the South of the US, so although overall there isn't as much rain here as in other parts of the country we do get some straight days of rain, especially winter/spring. For this product, the spike gets deep enough into the ground to stay stable. The number scales, centimeters and inches, along graduated lines is easy to read. Being hard plastic, it does well outdoors. That said, be careful not to drop it on hard floor/ground. Unfortunately, I dropped one and it cracked.

For the budget price it's an excellent rain gauge. I'm a meteorologist and I bought one for my dad. It's easy for him to read. It's very accurate, to the nearest tenth of an inch, and it's durable and sturdy. Seems to hold up pretty well. It's always nice knowing exactly how much rain fell. It's better than asking "dang, how much rain did we get?". Well now you can know exactly how much!

This rain gauge is accurate and easy to read. It is reasonably priced. It will last a few years if you do not let it freeze with water inside. I have used this particular model for several years. I recommend it.
