About this item

  • Warm and buttery in aroma, thick and malty on the tongue, our Tie Guan Yin Supreme is a Taiwanese tea with a proud heritage and an unmistakeable taste.
  • Unlike modern green, fresh Tie Guan Yin, this tea has been slowly roasted in accordance with traditional methods that many thought lost. The secrets of Tie Guan Yin Supreme were almost forgotten, but its flavour never will be.
  • Valley of Tea source this traditional tea from the Alishan Tea Mountain in Taiwan, where master artisans prepare and slow roast the leaves using traditional methods.
  • This tea is truly a blast from the past. One happy customer wrote to tell us that it reminded him of tea enjoyed with a grandparent many decades ago.
  • For the true Tie Guan Yin Supreme experience, we recommend preparing the tea in a traditional Gaiwan pot. You’ll be glad you did.

Product Description

We love for tea, we love tea, and we long for our next cup.

If you love tea too, you’ve found a kindred spirit.

We only source and supply the freshest, finest teas available. Teas where the taste of the earth in which the trees grew infuses every sip. Teas where the hard work of artisan farmers comes through in heady aromas. Teas that we’re absolutely certain you’ll love.

That’s what Valley of Tea is all about.

Only the Freshest Teas

We know that freshness is the secret to a wonderful cup of tea, and so do the artisan farmers we work with. There’s only one way to find tea fresher than that which Valley of Tea sells, and that’s to head to a tea plantation for yourself with a tea pot and some hot water!

Artisan Teas from Artisan Growers

We take pride in our teas because they’re the culmination of generations of hard work. We seek out the finest artisan tea farms – from the foothills of the Himalayas to the slopes of Fujian. No matter where the greatest teas are grown, we seek them out.

We Find Rare Teas

Some teas are hard to find. Connoisseurs and aficionados are always looking for rare teas. We know just where to find them, and how to get them to your cup in peak condition.

Whether you’re looking for a natural pure tea, or a healthful, relaxing blend, all of our teas contain only the finest, freshest natural ingredients with no added flavours.

Each tea comes with detailed information on brewing the perfect cup. We have all of the tea you could ever want – and all you’ll need is a teapot and a cup.

This is really good tea.Best way to drink is pour a little boiling water over the leaves and dump water almost immediately. This takes the wax off the leaves. Next, add cold water just to cover leaves then fill rest with boiling water and steep about 3 minutes and strain. This is the cold water method that protects leaves from getting burnt which causes excessive bitterness. Good for 3 solid steepings.

Bao Zhong has been my favorite non-puerh tea since I first tasted it about 30 years ago. This tea is so weak that it shouldn’t even be labeled as Bao Zhong!!!I have two very good ones that I purchased here on Amazon in the last few years and I’m looking to replace one that I ran out of. This one doesn’t do it! It’s so weak in Bao Zhong flavor that I couldn’t even tell that that’s what it was when I drank my 1st cup of it. It was only with the 2nd cup that I could taste a hint of Bao Zhong flavor, which is not worth the $8.51 / ounce that I paid for it! I am very disappointed in this tea!New edit: I am now making it twice as strong and can taste that it is actually Bao Zhong, though still very weak.

Bottom line on the Da Hong Pao Nov 2023: It's fine, not bad at all, but nothing special. I'd classify it as bare minimum acceptable quality for drinking, but there's much better out there for not much more money. Brewing gongfu style I was 3 infusions in before it reached full potential, but dropped off immediately. No fines in the package, picking looked nice. The cup pic is the 4th infusion.Notes in case anyone is interested (brewed in well used Chaozhou clay pot): dry leaf - light nose, honey, lemon, wheat straw, cut grass, tobacco; rinse water - generic black tea nose with not much else, surprisingly strong minerality, slight honey sweetness, thin feel; wet leaf - powerful impression on the nose, charred broccoli, cut mint, peach cobbler; 1st infusion 200F 30-35s: same non-descript nose as the rinse, good color, not much flavor, a bit of minerality, but light feel; 2nd infusion 200F 1min: lighter nose but with a little of the vegatal notes back, slight improvement of black tea flavor, slightly more assertive minerality, a little of the sweetness from the rinse, slightly thicker rounder feel; 3rd infusion 200F 1.5min: more of same, slightly denser generic black tea flavor, thicker feel, as good as it's going to get - fine but nothing special at all; 4th infusion 210F 1.5min: some of the honey and wheat straw nose is back, minerality holding, but flavor and thickness are dropping off.

Ten Ren Tea used to be this quality, like ten years ago. I thought that I kept getting bad batches, but I even went to their main branch - 1200 miles away. I bought the most expensive quality that Ten Ren had, and I was very disappointed. Now, finally, I found the tea. Please keep making this quality. There are just too much junk out there.

I have been searching for dark roast oolong tea on Amazon for boba making and couldn't find anything that's great when steeped for prolonged time since that's how I make my boba. I bought something that's a dark roast from a Ranch 99 super market but that's very poor, not only does it taste bitter and unsmooth but also there was no aroma. Similar products at Amazon were found to be too light a roast such as Vahdam or one high mountain tea from Taiwan. Anxi Black Dragon was OK, though but something was always lacking. Now enter this one. As soon as I open the bag and take a whiff I was immediately excited, so I steeped one up with 95°C hot water and boy the Aroma is there although reserved, but the taste is almost impeccable. It's dark yet very, very smooth. Almost sweet and very nuanced, and there is no bitterness at all. Highly recommend since it is exceeding my expectation!

This tie guan yin wulong is very tasty. It has a wonderful balance of flavors, retaining fresh floral notes from lighter wulong preparation but introducing rich earthy flavors also. The leaves are quite dark because of roasting but the scent in cup is profuse and delicious.I would like to further state that Mr. Gryson's customer service puts others to shame. He has been very quick in response to all my inquiries and gone beyond any reasonable expectation of service by educating me not just about his products but tea generally. Valley of Tea is a source of delicious tea as well as an opportunity to become more deeply involved in the culture surrounding the plant and its liquor.

After doing some research I purchased this Pouchong Oolong for my mother, and fortunately it was very well received. Over the years my mother has unsuccessfully tried to find the Oolong variety from her childhood. She said this tasted just like what she remembered. It was easily steeped 3-4 times for some very nice, lightly colored, Oolong. Higher temperature water will result in a darker tea. We found no need for sugar or honey as it has a wonderfully sweet aroma, flavor, and mouth feel on its own. It's not quite a raw green tea nor is it a black tea. This one is a winner!
