It was a snap to replace our corroded old drain linkage assembly. There are plenty of youtube videos on this. My only tip would be to put some tape over the hole in the ceramic where you are feeding in the new assembly while you are working (then remove tape once you're ready to screw back in the plate. Because the clip/pin bit at the top is metal (not plastic like the one we replaced), and because you will likely need to jiggle and squeeze a bit to get the end bit in, I ended up lightly scratching the tub enamel.

Didn't fit my tub. I don't think the stopper fit, then it fell off the linkage and was a whole ordeal to get back out.I thought it would be better than the plastic one I had but didn't work for me

It seemed like this was a mostly universal replacement for the linkage portion. If yours is tapered at all or uses an O-ring though, this will likely not fit. It bottoms out before getting far enough down.
