Lake Superior
On the night of November 23, 1953, radar operators from the Air Defense Command Ground Intercept station in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, identified an unusual target over Lake Superior in the vicinity of the Soo Locks. Responding to this anomaly, an F-89C Scorpion jet from Kinross Air Force Base was dispatched to investigate. First Lieutenant Moncla piloted the Scorpion, with Second Lieutenant Robert L. Wilson serving as the radar operator.
Wilson encountered difficulty tracking the object on the Scorpion's radar, prompting ground radar operators to provide Moncla with directions. Closing in on the object at an altitude of approximately 8,000 feet, Moncla and the unidentified target were tracked as two distinct "blips" on the radar screen. As they drew nearer, the blips appeared to merge, leading Ground Control to anticipate that Moncla had either flown above or below the object. The expectation was that the Scorpion and the unidentified object would reappear as separate blips shortly thereafter. However, to their surprise, only a single blip continued on its original course.
Despite attempts to establish radio contact with Moncla, all efforts proved unsuccessful. Both the United States Air Force (USAF) and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) initiated a prompt search and rescue operation, but no traces of the plane or its pilots were found.

Colorful and spins well without stem jitter. However, haven’t reached spin times close to 15 minutes. Best so far is a little over 7 minutes.

So 1 of 2 tops spins smoothly. Not sure if they are worth the $ but the Nimitz top works fine. The Roswell stutters and glitches and wobbles and will be returned.The idea is cute, modeling after UFO sightings. But the China made quality seems to be hit or miss. Probably a $5 to $7 top from Chinese sellers.Plus the seller and Amazon do not match ship times at all. Delays and more have these tops arriving weeks later than stated as we sent some as gifts also. Not worth the bother at this point.

When I ordered this, it was for my 14-year-old, but my 3-year-old found the package before I could hide it and this has become one of his favorite toys. It actually offers quite a bit of sensory play. He can watch this spin for longer than I could ever expect from a 3-year-old. at first, it was a bit heavy for him, but once he played with it for a bit, he was able to get the hang of it. Even if it were just for the physics experiment we got out of this, it has been well worth ordering. We will definitely be going back for more like this to test their differences.

This top is made fully of metal which gives it a nice heft. Spinning it is easy with the grooved post. It spins very well although the duration is dependent on your skill. I have the Nimitz Psychadelic color which has a nice iridescent hue.The overall look is more industrial rather than beautiful so that may be a negative for some people.
