The Vine users love it. Huge surprise. Mine came configured as noted. It was easy to set up, and not just because I have a lot of experience doing this. Unfortunately, it will not receive any radio signal in any mode whatsoever. It receives the TG I put into it on both time slots just fine and transmits them correctly, but it absolutely will not receive any radio frequency for which it is specifically designed. Is it just a one off dud? Who knows? It's going back today.I have been trying for a while to find a low power compact duplex hat pi for a while now. I've come up goose eggs every time, and this time was no different. If you decide to buy this unit I wish you the best of luck with it.

The Pi Zero burned out within a couple of days. Upon investigation it was found to not have any heatsinks installed. For the price, it would have been nice to be able to engage the seller to discuss my options...

Maybe I misunderstood but I thought THE TIF card was already installed, but there was none in the package. It seems like a solid unit. I wish instructions were written more clearly. Perhaps sharing a video demonstrating the initial set up. I will amend this when I succeed getting it working.

This is for amateur radio. First, you'll need to be prepared for joining a Facebook group. This is a bit complicated to get going, but works once you do. It works with brandmiester. I use the stock antennas and they work for me. For other modes, you'll want different antennas. The range is a bit limited out of the box. But they are removable. can do simplex and duplex. Doesn't take a lot of power, works on battery pack for me.

I have begun the deep dive into DMR radio with this mmdvm pi-star device. My first action was to obtain a DMR radio. There are many to choose from. My budget is limited. There are several subscriptions to sign up for to make this mmdvm work...one for RadioID and another for BrandMeister...so that the pi-star may be fully utilized. Setup and signup was time consuming and is now done.Regarding this device:I find it well made and protected inside the case. Some helpful information is included in the box and lots of information is online.I'm fascinated with the development of electronics that utilize the Raspberry Pi as a base, especially the Raspberry Pi Zero W.I'm not sure that it draws enough power to keep a small power bank switched on. Several times my power banks have switched off with it running. It may be different if actual traffic is being passed by the device, memory accessed, etc.My next hurdle is learning to program the radio to work with this device.
