This is a truly an astounding example of lousy manufacturing. The screws that are supposed to hold the adjustable speaker column at the desired height are too short to make enough contact to hold the column in place. All the manufacturer had to do was include the correct length screw, but they didn't do that. Probably the dumbest product I have ever purchase from Amazon, and I order a lot. Total waste of time and money.

These stands are amazing. I started with Bose speakers and bought the Bose stands. There expensive and they don't adjust height, but they look good with those little speakers. Then I bought Energy 5.1 speakers and I bought the adjustable Monoprice stands. A little taller but a little weird for mounting the speakers, but they worked fine. I then changed my speakers to Kef C1's as I needed more sound and better sound and my Energy's were distorting. Since the Kef's are at least twice the size I didn't know what to do and I needed the rear speakers on the stand to clear my couch, which neither of the two previous stands did. These VideoSecu stands are fabulous. They adjust at least up to 42"-44" at the bottom of the speaker which is different than the other stands which on which the speakers hang so that if the stand is 36" tall the center of the speaker is at 32"-34". The speakers sit on top of these stands so if the stand is set at 36" the center of your speakers could be at 40"-42". Now these stands are more appropriate for speakers from the size of Energy Take Classic 5.1 at the small end to a speaker that is 12" in width, possibly more and 12"-18" in height with a weight of probably 25-30lbs. The stands include rubberized strips which attach on the side clamps and using a Phillips screwdriver you tighten or adjust the side clamps to hold the speakers. I added little spongy rubber bumpers on the top of the plate that holds the speakers. I figured it would help the sound reverberation from going into the metal pole and vibrating. Using a Kef C1 or a Kef C3 as a good average size of speakers for the stand, they work great and hold the speakers firmly. I saw openings on the side clamps and in the base that looked like they were for screws or other items to mount the speakers with, but they were totally unnecessary as the side clamps gripped the speakers firmly. The top also rotates and tilts in any direction or prior to mounting the speakers you just tighten the center screw and it will stop it from any movement. Also the bottom of the base has 4 rubber bumper feet so no sound vibration travels to or from the stand. With all these adjustments, which are very simple, the craftsmanship of the stand, the wire going through the center of the pole and popping out just beneath the base and the great method of mounting the speaker and especially the heigth adjustment which allows me to place my speakers above my couch makes these the best speaker stands I have ever used. This comes from a guy who owns 3 sets of stands and has shopped all over the internet. And they are quite reasonably priced. If you have any of the problems I had, buy these stands, they work great.

I had just ordered the Onkyo HT-S5400 7.1 Home Theater package. My previous setup was a little mis-matched 5.1 with the speakers mounted to the wall all the way around. However, before purchasing my upgrade, I did some research into speaker placement because I did not like how the sound was muddied and muffled a bit, coming from the 5.1 setup. It turns out speaker placement and direction are critical for a proper home theater soundstage. Our living room is wide open with a ceiling that goes from 10ft to 15ft. A general rule is to not have your surround speakers more than 3ft difference in distance between them and the central listening point. In other words, if your left surround is 10 ft from the point, the right surround should be between 7 and 13 ft.Anyway, these stands allowed me to position my speakers at the optimum location. They shipped fast and had a great price. They are all metal and quite sturdy. The only thing they don't tell you is that in order to run your speaker wire through the pole, you have to pop off the plastic insert that covers it. I did have to do some adjusting, as the speaker plate and holes were a bit too wide for my speakers. I drilled new holes about 3/4" farther in and used small wood screws to fasten to my speakers. It worked perfectly. The stand holds them well and feels secure (they will definitely be put to the test with my three year old!).Adjusting the height is easy. The telescoping pole is solid and it doesn't feel unstable when fully extended. The tightening wheel is solid and smooth, it doesn't have that "digging into the metal" feel like some of those tightening screws have. It doesn't leave any scratch marks on the black matte finish.I also like the all metal feel to the stands, as I have grown increasingly weary of plastic/composite material for home theater accessories. All in all, I feel these stands are an excellent choice for budget-minded enthusiasts.
